Salary: CAD 30,000 - 60,000

The Centre d'Essais Techniques (MER) (CETM) is the main Maritime testing and evaluation center for the National Defense. CETM provides a range of multidisciplinary technical testing services, including non-destructive testing to ensure asset protection. CETM is an establishment of the Department of National Defence (DND) and has been managed by Weir Canada Inc. on behalf of the Government of Canada since 1953. More than 400 people currently work for Weir at CETM or with clients, fulfilling mandates from the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) and DND in a wide variety of technical fields.

Purpose of Role: As a non-destructive testing (NDT) specialist, you will be called upon to support inspection activities for naval vessels located mainly in Montreal, Halifax, and Victoria.

Under the supervision of the Operations Manager, the NDT Technician will perform the following duties:

  1. Demonstrate 100% commitment to our zero harm behaviors in support of our drive towards developing a world-class safety culture.
  2. Perform ship inspections on various components and interpret results.
  3. Write inspection reports.
  4. Establish and maintain a professional relationship with customers.
  5. Supervise and train the assistant technician, when required.

Knowledge, Training, and Qualifications:

  1. Degree in a relevant field.
  2. Work ethic and professionalism.
  3. Flexibility with work schedules.
  4. Concern for providing excellent customer service and quality work.
  5. Comfortable working at heights and/or in confined spaces.
  6. Good knowledge of ultrasonic testers, penetrating liquids, magnetic particles, eddy currents, and other equipment.
  7. Bilingualism (spoken and written).
  8. Good team player with strong communication skills.
  9. Initiative and autonomy.
  10. Canadian citizenship, with 10 or more years residing in Canada with no periods longer than six continuous months out of the country, is necessary to obtain a government security clearance to the minimum level of Secret.
