NNEC is a non-profit educational organization, under the direction of the Sioux Lookout District Chiefs. NNEC delivers secondary and post-secondary education programs and services for First Nations people. NNEC operates Pelican Falls First Nations High School, Pelican Falls Centre, Pelican Falls Wellness Centre, Dennis Franklin Cromarty High School, WAHSA Distance Education Centre and has offices in Lac Seul (head office), Sioux Lookout and Thunder Bay.
TEACHER COACH
GENERAL
The Teacher Coach provides support and mentorship for the teaching staff at NNEC schools. The Teacher Coach must be a self-motivated individual with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. The Teacher Coach will provide support through building professional networks and collaborations, identifying and coordinating professional learning opportunities and work with teaching staff to develop strategies to address individual student needs.
This position is under the general direction of the Director of Education.
DUTIES
- Plan and implement professional development in-service for teaching staff at NNEC Schools.
- Work with the school leadership to identify tools to assess teachers’ classrooms.
- Collaborate with school leadership and teaching staff to identify specific, measurable goals.
- Assist in developing pedagogical strategies to meet those goals.
- Identify and develop resources that support teaching styles that align with the school’s mission and values.
- Provide feedback and troubleshoot obstacles in collaboration with school leadership.
- Work with a variety of NNEC staff to help identify internal supports, resources, and services to support goals and program objectives.
- Collaborate with external partner agencies to identify internal supports, resources, and services to support goals and program objectives.
- Help school staff identify their strengths and work on challenges.
- Monitor and advise school leadership of changes in curriculum, policy, standards, and assessments.
- Model classroom lessons for teachers.
- Build strong relationships with teachers and administrators.
- Research new resources and evidence-based strategies for instruction, assessment, classroom management, and student engagement.
- Test and promote the latest tools and technologies for teaching.
- Support teachers in using student-level data to improve instruction.
- Assist teachers with developing differentiated lessons, planning and pacing lessons, and implementing best practices to meet all students’ needs.
- Informally observe lessons and provide feedback for teacher growth.
- Assist with the development of systems and structures to improve school-wide teacher practice and student engagement.
- Other duties as directed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be a good standing member of Ontario College of Teachers.
- Ontario Intermediate/Senior teacher certificate qualifications.
- Leadership skills demonstrated at the school and system levels.
- Excellent organization, interpersonal, communication, collaboration, and consultation skills.
- Experience networking with external partners.
- Experience teaching First Nation students is an asset.
- Computer literacy.
- Ability to speak a district First Nations language is an asset.
- Must be willing and able to travel and have the ability to work flexible hours.
