Summary

AM800 is seeking a FT evening and weekend reporter/anchor who is self-motivated, a progressive thinker and who can work in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate must have experience with reporting local, national, world and breaking news that reflects the Windsor-Essex community and identify and tell stories that matter to the audience.

Job Description

  • Responsible for on-going, pro-active coverage of regional and local issues in the Windsor-Essex area
  • Identify, research, investigate, gather, interview, write, edit, and report news stories in live or taped programming
  • Contribute to AM800 Newscasts & programs for both on air and digital
  • Write and deliver hourly weekend on-air newscasts
  • Follow and report on breaking news
  • Daily updates of station web pages and social media accounts
  • Identify, research, select and write original news stories, headlines and captions for digital
  • Gather, edit interviews and news material in the field and at radio station
  • Provide backfill for other news and operations positions as required

Critical Qualifications

  • Minimum 1-year current work experience in a news operation
  • Minimum 3 years radio experience
  • Post-Secondary education in journalism or broadcasting
  • Ability to distinguish between writing for broadcast and digital with proper formatting and CP style
  • Self-starter who can multitask and work under pressure
  • Strong communication skills with all departments
  • In-depth knowledge of coverage of region, national and international news
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines of several simultaneous duties, while maintaining focus
  • Ability to work in a team and be self-motivated
  • The successful applicant must demonstrate a high degree of adaptability and must be committed to learning in a fast-paced environment
  • A valid G class driver’s license and a good driving record are required

  • Available full-time – Evenings/Weekends Hours subject to change based on operational requirements
