Job description

The Network Systems Analyst is responsible for supporting the operation and ongoing maintenance of the department’s personal computer systems required to support the business needs of the Public Works Department. The position acts as a resource in the department by providing technical support in the installation and maintenance of computer hardware and software, by resolving operational difficulties and by training end users of the system.

As the Network Systems Analyst, you will:

  • Support existing software and hardware through the process of problem determination, identifying solutions, and implementing approved solutions.
  • Configure computer hardware and software for end users and resolve associated problems.
  • Purchase and dispose of hardware and software, as requested by the Desktop and Mobility Services Coordinator/Desktop Support Specialist/IT Coordinators.
  • Provide end users with general guidance and training related to the use of personal computers/peripherals, software and the local area network.
  • Perform other related duties consistent with the classification as required.

Your education and qualifications include:

  • Diploma or Degree from a recognized technical school or college/university in the area of computer hardware, operating systems and networking, including troubleshooting, maintenance and servicing (i.e., Microcomputer Systems Technician, Computer Engineering Technology, Microcomputer Network Support) or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician designation, A+ Certification, Network+ Certification and/or ITIL Certification is preferred.
  • Minimum three years' experience in IT support and customer service environment.
  • Experience in configuration and operation of personal computer hardware and software, including installation of memory, hard drives and other peripherals.
  • Experience in configuration and operation of various types of hardware including iOS and Android devices, etc.
  • Ability to investigate, analyze, evaluate and resolve PC-related problems.
  • Interpersonal skills and an ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, external contacts and the public, in accordance with the Respectful Workplace Standard.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, including the ability to prepare and conduct training sessions.
  • Ability to provide quality customer service.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions and tight timelines under minimum supervision.
  • Knowledge of MS Windows operating systems and MS Office suite of products, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to query reports and maintain relational databases utilizing Structured Query Language (SQL) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the functions and operations of the Department of Public Works is preferred.

  • Applicants who have been educated outside of Canada must have education which is comparable to the minimum qualification in Canada. Applicants submitting foreign credentials require an official academic assessment report issued by a recognized Canadian assessment service.

  • The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver's Licence.
