Job description

PRT is seeking a Full-Time Network and Systems Administrator to be based in the Greater Toronto Area. The Network and Systems Administrator plays a critical role in building and maintaining a robust and secure network and systems infrastructure for PRT. The person in this position is responsible for deploying, configuring, updating, and monitoring all active servers, network equipment and supporting systems to ensure seamless operation. Most work hours will be spent indoors in an office environment. However, the person in this role will be expected to travel to many Canadian and US nursery locations and occasionally work outside of regular business hours.

Key Accountabilities of the Network and Systems Administrator:

  • Highly proficient in the entire Microsoft 365 suite including Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, InTune and SharePoint.
  • Equally capable of managing our hybrid Active Directory / Entra ID directory services for managing users and computers, whether locally or in the cloud. Very comfortable with group policies, DHCP, DNS and migrating on-premise servers, users and applications to the cloud.
  • Manage, update and troubleshoot sometimes complex problems within Windows Server, Citrix and server virtualization both in our datacentre or in the cloud.
  • Collaborate with third-party IT Managed Services Providers at all levels for technical support and project-related initiatives.
  • Support a wide variety of on-premise and cloud-based applications, including finance, payroll, business intelligence, CRM and our custom applications.
  • Setting up, configuring and updating firewalls, firewall policies, switches, and access points across the enterprise, including using centralized management tools.
  • Troubleshoot problems within Windows, Citrix XenApp, Microsoft Office 365 suite and cloud, our custom application, financial and payroll applications, GoTo Connect, Teams, etc.
  • Support the helpdesk as required by providing escalated desktop support through advanced troubleshooting skills for 30 sites across Canada and the US using our remote tools.
  • Comfortable in creating, testing and deploying Windows 10 / 11 operating systems, applications and updates via Microsoft Autopilot / Intune.
  • Extremely comfortable using helpdesk, asset management and knowledge base systems on a daily basis and ensuring tickets, assets and documentation are always up to date.
  • Providing individual orientation and training to new users in our IT infrastructure.
  • Effectively collaborate with the server, network, printer support team members, contractors, and software developers, as needed.
  • Promptly respond to customer requests and ensure regular updates are provided until the ticket is closed. Provide follow-up to ensure the resolution was successful.
  • Escalate any problems or long-term issues to management promptly.
  • Manage and deploy the VOIP phone system.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field, or a combination of equivalent education and experience.
  • Microsoft certifications, either as MCSE or Azure Administrator preferred. However, you must be highly skilled and very experienced in Microsoft 365 environments, including Microsoft Azure and Entra ID.
  • Network Certifications in Cisco, Fortinet or equivalent are required as you will be required to set and manage firewalls, switches and access points across the enterprise with a focus on security and ease of support.
  • Certifications in VMware, VDI or other virtualization technology would be desirable.
  • Minimum of five years' experience supporting IT and providing a high level of customer service.
  • Working knowledge of computer hardware including but not limited to physical and virtual servers and storage, laptops, desktops, tablets, printers, scanners, computer peripherals, Apple and Android mobile devices.
  • Proficient in a range of the latest computer operating systems such as Server 2022, Windows 10 / 11, Android and IOS, including Microsoft and third-party tools.
  • Security certifications such as CompTIA would be advantageous.

Working Conditions:

  • Scheduling and completion of work outside of regular office hours is occasionally required.
  • Scheduled on-call availability for up to 14 days a month.
  • Most work hours will be spent indoors in an office environment. However, the person in this role will be expected and able to travel occasionally to our Canadian and US nursery locations.
  • Occasional driving to sites is required.
  • Participate in other nursery and other non-IT related tasks when called upon.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

  • Working in office locations, including confined places such as under desks, and lifting moderate loads such as a computer.
  • Working at nurseries can involve walking on uneven, dusty or muddy ground. Greenhouses can also be confined, and network access points can often be high up, although safety protocols are in place, and you will not be expected to work in unsafe conditions.
