Skills & Expertise

To complement the existing expertise, diversity and range of experience on the national board, we are seeking new members with a variety of skill sets, including individuals who possess some of the following:

1. Governance Understanding of board duties and responsibilities and leading governance principles and practices, gained as a senior executive and/or director of an organization with solid corporate governance practices or with a not-for-profit organization.
2. Finance / Accounting / Investment / Risk Technical expertise on financial statements and reporting matters, critical accounting policies, issues related to audits, internal controls, and investment management, including prior experience as a professional accountant, CFO or CEO. Experience in identifying and assessing principal risks facing the organization and developing applicable risk management solutions.
3. Relevant Medical Background Experience in the medical industry with knowledge pertaining to heart disease and stroke, including business and regulatory fundamentals (e.g., research & development, operations, patient care, quality control, regulatory, and risk).
4. Strategic Planning / Performance Development Experience developing and implementing a successful strategy, including appropriately probing and challenging management on the delivery of agreed strategic objectives.
5. Business / Management / Operational Leadership Experience as an executive leading a management and/or functional team for an organization with a track record of success and value creation.
