Skills & Expertise
To complement the existing expertise, diversity and range of experience on the national board, we are seeking new members with a variety of skill sets, including individuals who possess some of the following:
- Governance Understanding of board duties and responsibilities and leading governance principles and practices, gained as a senior executive and/or director of an organization with solid corporate governance practices or with a not-for-profit organization.
- Finance / Accounting / Investment / Risk Technical expertise on financial statements and reporting matters, critical accounting policies, issues related to audits, internal controls, and investment management, including prior experience as a professional accountant, CFO or CEO. Experience in identifying and assessing principal risks facing the organization and developing applicable risk management solutions.
- Relevant Medical Background Experience in the medical industry with knowledge pertaining to heart disease and stroke, including business and regulatory fundamentals (e.g., research & development, operations, patient care, quality control, regulatory, and risk).
- Strategic Planning / Performance Development Experience developing and implementing a successful strategy, including appropriately probing and challenging management on the delivery of agreed strategic objectives.
- Business / Management / Operational Leadership Experience as an executive leading a management and/or functional team for an organization with a track record of success and value creation.
