Permanent Full-Time, On-Site

Join the City of Medicine Hat as an MW Technologist II and play a key role in supporting our Municipal Works Engineering teams. This junior technical position provides hands-on experience with roadway and drainage infrastructure, offering a great opportunity for growth in civil engineering technology. Your Key Responsibilities

  1. Provide technical assistance for sidewalks, traffic control devices, snow clearance, and street sweeping.
  2. Administer and maintain a system for receiving and tracking public and field inquiries.
  3. Conduct inspections related to construction completion and final acceptance certificates (CCC/FAC).
  4. Support engineering analysis, studies, designs, cost estimates, tenders, and reports.
  5. Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, standards, and municipal policies.
  6. Incorporate and manage data within GIS for analysis and asset management.
  7. Develop and maintain relational databases for asset management and maintenance.
  8. Prepare drawings, plans, and maps for roadway and drainage infrastructure.
  9. Use survey equipment such as Total Station, GPS, and electronic locating devices.
  10. Liaise with city departments, consultants, and contractors to support municipal projects.
  11. Train and support field personnel in the use of GIS software and field computers.
  12. Assist senior technologists in preparing technical specifications.

What You Bring

  1. Knowledge of civil engineering principles and quality control/assurance practices.
  2. Ability to perform field calculations and operate precision equipment.
  3. Strong technical skills in reading/interpreting plans, reports, and technical documents.
  4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, GIS, drafting software, and ERP systems.
  5. Understanding of workplace health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  6. Effective communication and teamwork skills.

Qualifications

  1. Diploma in Civil/Municipal Engineering Technology from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  2. Minimum of two (2) years of experience in an engineering technology environment or as a CMH Technologist I.
  3. Membership (or eligibility) in ASET and Alberta Society of Engineering Technologists (C.E.T.).
  4. Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
  5. A combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
