Music Teacher (Preschool to Grade 12) - Maternity Leave Position

Maria Montessori Academy is an independent school in Victoria offering dynamic, hands-on learning to students from Preschool to Grade 12. We are currently seeking a passionate and versatile Music Teacher for a maternity leave position beginning February 2025, with an anticipated end date of January 2026. The successful candidate will oversee music education across all levels, from Preschool to Grade 12, fostering a love for music and nurturing students' creative and musical potential. Our small class sizes allow for individualized instruction and meaningful engagement with students.

Role Overview:

1. Deliver music instruction in line with the BC curriculum and Montessori principles.
2. Develop lesson plans that inspire creativity, foster musical growth, and engage students of all ages and abilities.
3. Lead and support musical ensembles, choirs, or school performances.
4. Incorporate a variety of musical styles, instruments, and technology to enrich the music program.
5. Collaborate with staff to integrate music education with other subjects and school activities.
6. Participate in professional development, school meetings, and extracurricular activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. BC Teacher Certification.
2. A Bachelor's degree in Music, Music Education, or a related field.
3. Experience teaching music to children and youth across a range of age groups.
4. Proficient in a variety of musical instruments and vocal techniques.
5. Strong understanding of the BC curriculum and music pedagogy.
6. Excellent classroom management, organizational, and time-management skills.
7. Enthusiastic about collaborating with colleagues and engaging with students in both academic and non-academic settings.

Additional Assets:

1. Montessori training or experience.
2. Current First Aid & CPR-C certification.
3. Experience or willingness to explore leading cohort-wide music events and performances.
4. Knowledge of music technology and software for teaching and performance.
