Job description

The Music Lead at Living Faith Community Presbyterian Church plays a vital role in enhancing the worship experience by providing appropriate music selections and coordinating musical elements for each worship service. This position involves collaboration with the congregation, minister, volunteers, and other staff members to create a meaningful and engaging worship environment through music. The successful candidate will have excellent organizational and communication skills, along with a sense of humour. This person should be familiar with the music and worship of the Christian Church.

Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinate music at all worship services including any vocal and/or instrumental offerings.
  2. Lead Call to Worship in a rotation on Sunday mornings.
  3. Engage praise team volunteers, ensuring high-quality offerings, and optimal sound setup.
  4. Assist with scheduling vocalists and instruments weekly – guitar, bass, and drums.
  5. Maintain regular praise team rehearsal and communicate weekly with members via email.
  6. Support with sound setup and balance, assisting the Tech Lead as needed.
  7. Participate in bi-monthly worship planning meetings to select music and plan for worship services to align with service themes for congregational engagement.

Qualifications:

  1. Demonstrated proficiency in leading musicians, musical coordination, and arrangement.
  2. Commitment to Living Faith Community Presbyterian Church’s mission.

Working Hours and Compensation:

  1. Approximately 10 hours per week, with flexibility for additional hours during special events.
  2. Compensation and benefits will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

Special Requirements:

  1. Statement of faith.
  2. A current Police Records Check including vulnerable sector check in accordance with the Presbyterian Church in Canada’s “Leading with Care” policy.

Accountability:

The Music Lead reports to the Minister and is ultimately accountable to the Session. During the first year, evaluations will occur at the end of the third, sixth, and twelfth months to ensure all is running smoothly. Consultation, particularly in the first three months, will be provided regularly by both the Minister and Session. Evaluations will occur annually. The current job description will be discussed and adjusted if necessary.
