Municipal Services Corporation Board Member

The Township of Oro-Medonte is currently seeking one (1) new member to join the skills-based Board of Directors for the Municipal Services Corporation (MSC).

The MSC is responsible for the Township of Oro-Medonte’s Environmental Services division infrastructure inclusive of municipal drinking water, streetlights, urban stormwater management, communal tile systems, and wastewater services.

The primary purpose of the skills-based Board of Directors is to provide governance oversight for the MSC. Based on services provided by the MSC, the following skills criteria are required in the overall composition of the MSC's Board of Directors:

1. Civil Engineering/Water Resource/Environmental Engineering – strong working knowledge and/or direct experience in civil engineering/water resource/environmental engineering and general project management.
2. Financial Expertise – strong financial acumen as it relates to financial reporting and analysis within the public sector.
3. Awareness of Services Provided by the MSC and Overall MSC Business Model – awareness of services provided by the MSC, and specific challenges related to the provision of Environmental Services in a rural community with urbanized pockets; awareness of the Municipal Act (municipal governance), and the governing principles of an MSC.
4. Government Relations – possess a solid understanding of managing government relations at all levels.
5. Corporate Social Responsibility/Public Relations and Communications – experience and expertise with respect to environmental stewardship at an organizational or broader community level.
6. Risk Management – professional expertise as it relates to assessing and advising on the issue of risk management within a financial/business environment.

At this time, given the current Board member skill sets, candidates with experience related to financial expertise and risk management are preferred, in addition to experience serving on a Board of Directors for a similar business/undertaking. All Board members must be Canadian citizens. MSC Board of Directors will be compensated consistent with the Township’s current Remuneration and Expense Bylaw for Council/Committee members and meets approximately four (4) times per year.
