We are a friendly, innovative and forward-thinking multidisciplinary team looking for a driven, dynamic and passionate Physiotherapist who wants to join us in making a real difference to the quality of life of Manchester’s residents.
The Moving and Handling Optimisation team is a citywide service with the aim of improving the independence of residents and ensuring the right level of care is being received. The team uses equipment, adaptations, assistive technology, and alternative moving and handling techniques to optimise care packages.
There is lots of evidence that single-handed care is better for the resident. It improves relationships between the carer and resident, reduces handling for those affected by significant pain or cognitive impairment, encourages independence and leads to more effective use of resources.
The team, consisting of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, a Senior Social Worker and Moving and Handling Assessment Officers, reports to the Principal Occupational Therapist and is therapy led. We are achieving great outcomes, we support and learn from each other and morale is high.
You will be responsible for completing comprehensive therapy assessments in conjunction with support of the team, whilst also working collaboratively with other therapy and social care services throughout MCC and the MLCO. We have a strong focus on enabling people to remain independent within their homes and local communities by maximising their independence, choice, safety and quality of life.
For further information about the role please contact Rachael Jones, Moving and Handling Optimisation Team Manager (Occupational Therapist) via rachael.jones@manchester.gov.uk
‘There is no doubt about the vibrancy, spirit and sheer potential that defines Manchester. Working in a city that is bold, dynamic and not afraid to do things differently has been an exciting opportunity and experience as an occupational therapist’
‘I love Manchester as a City and working with the citizens of Manchester is amazingly rewarding. The community OT role offers the opportunity to work with a diverse range of citizens with a range of conditions, this means that after 23 years of working as an OT I am continuing to learn every day and every day is different. The flexible working means that I can establish a good work life/balance’
We are looking for a critical and innovative thinker who can gather and analyse information, manage risk and maximize residents’ quality of life.
You will be resilient, empathic, compassionate and motivated.
You should have some knowledge and experience of mobility/functional assessment, moving and handling and low level equipment.
You must be organised and have excellent oral communication and written skills and be able to complete comprehensive reports in a timely and efficient manner.
You will maintain the standards set out by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP).
We offer Monday - Friday working, with no working on bank holidays or weekends, and a 35 hour working week, supporting a positive work/life balance.
Your induction will be tailored to you so you can learn at your own pace.
