We want to invest in and support our future Millwrights through hands-on and in-class learning. The Millwright Apprentice will report directly to the Maintenance Manager and will work closely with members of the Maintenance team to diligently gain the knowledge and skills required to successfully complete all levels of the 433A Industrial Millwright Apprenticeship and prepare you for the Certificate of Qualification to become a fully licensed Millwright. Any team member that is part of this program is required to become registered with the Skilled Trades Ontario.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and maintain all equipment used in the bakery
  • Daily support of all processes completing Emergency, Corrective, Preventive and Predictive Maintenance (PM) tasks
  • Participate in the team efforts to achieve assigned department goals; work closely with other team members to ensure all maintenance activities are completed on time, according to SOPs and regulatory requirements
  • Verify machine guarding is in place, interlocks are in working condition at all times, and apply proper LOTO (lockout tagout) procedures to equipment during repair
  • Identify and report unsafe conditions / near misses and accidents in a timely manner
  • Complete preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance routines according to master schedule
  • Work closely with the production team to identify and correct all Mechanical, Electrical, Pneumatic and Hydraulic problems to ensure equipment is functioning properly, operating safely and running efficiently
  • Contact equipment suppliers as required to gain information on equipment operation, maintenance or parts required
  • Apply a methodical approach to problem solving/diagnosing of mechanical/electrical issues
  • Identify and coordinate improvements to address downtime or efficiency issues
  • Develop written recommendations for Preventative and Predictive Maintenance routines
  • Understand and adhere to company policies, GMP’s (good manufacturing practices), SOP’s (standard operating procedures)
  • Exhibit a mature and cooperative attitude to promote good communication and teamwork both within the department and with other departments
  • Demonstrate initiative to assist others readily and frequently

Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled with the Skilled Trades Ontario as an Apprentice working towards a 433A Millwright License
  • Completion of a related college-level course is an asset
  • Experience in food manufacturing and/or industrial setting is an asset
  • Understanding of power, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electronic systems and devices with respect to their installation, repair, troubleshooting, and dismantling
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate, diagnose and resolve mechanical problems
  • Possess exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to demonstrate multitasking skills and deal in a rapidly changing work environment
  • Physical ability and cognitive aptitude to perform the essential duties of the job
  • Must be able to work various shifts (days, afternoons, nights, and weekends)
