Midwife

We are a team of Inuit and non-Inuit midwives working in Kuujjuaq, Nunavik, and we are looking for regular part-time midwives to come join our team (2-4 weeks, 3 to 5 times a year).

The Ungava Tulattavik Health Center (UTHC) maternity provides midwifery services and professional support to nurses in the seven communities of Ungava Bay. The majority of our clientele is Inuit, and most women will give birth in Kuujjuaq with the midwifery team. The team consists of the equivalent of 4 full-time midwives with rich experience in maternity care in remote areas. We work interdisciplinary with a team of nurses, doctors, student midwives, and social workers to provide care to women with low-risk and intermediate-risk pregnancies. We are part of the emergency evacuation team for premature deliveries or other obstetric or neonatal emergencies. Training Inuit midwives is at the core of the Kuujjuaq Maternity mission.

FUNCTIONS:

1. Ensures follow-up on pregnancies, deliveries, and immediate postpartum care for the mother and child;
2. Consult the Doctors according to the protocols put in place;
3. Work in partnership with village nursing and midwifery teams;
4. Engage and contribute to the training of local student midwives.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. To be a member of the Order of Midwives of Quebec (O.S.F.Q.);
2. Up-to-date Obstetric Emergency Certification (ESW, ALARM);
3. Up-to-date Certification in Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation, including intubation;
4. Sense of responsibility, autonomy, maturity, and diligence;
5. Openness, intercultural teaching skills, and listening skills are essential;
6. Capacity to adapt to a different work environment and work experience in the Nordic region;
7. Experience working in remote areas is an asset;
8. Facility and efficiency to work in interdisciplinary/multicultural team;
9. Excellent command of the English language, fluency in Inuktitut and/or French is an asset;
10. Be available to travel to the Ungava Bay communities;
11. Be available to be on call.

SALARY: Min: $1503.29 Max: $2133.68 / week
ISOLATION PREMIUM: $221.92/week
HIGH COST OF LIVING PREMIUM: $74.17/week
RETENTION PREMIUM: $383.29/week
