Job Description
Job Title: Microbiologist, Quality Control / Supervisor Delegate
In addition to performing the basic duties of a microbiology laboratory technician, the position holder supports the Microbiology Laboratory Supervisor by ensuring the execution and coordination of analytical activities, as well as the review and release of analytical records. They also assist technicians in drafting and evaluating investigations.
This role acts as the delegated authority of the Microbiology Supervisor during their absence.
- Main Responsibilities
- Under the supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor: Coordinates, in the short term, the various analytical activities related to raw materials, finished products, and stability samples based on priorities and deadlines.
- Manages change requests related to the microbiology quality control laboratory.
- Ensures communication between the microbiology group and other internal departments (chemistry, manufacturing, packaging, stability, and planning).
- Oversees the final review of analytical records and the approval of microbiology stages in the LIMS system.
- Ensures that required documentation is complete and compliant with GMP standards.
- Occasionally participates in drafting equipment qualification protocols.
- Leverages their expertise to facilitate the resolution of analytical issues in collaboration with technicians, the Supervisor, and the Department Manager.
- Executes protocols and validation reports for methods and participates in their implementation.
- Coordinates and allocates analytical activities related to production and the stability program based on priorities and deadlines.
- Conducts microbiological analyses when necessary.
- Ensures the coordination of instrument calibration.
- Assists technicians in drafting and evaluating laboratory investigations in collaboration with the Supervisor and Department Manager.
- Drafts, reviews, and ensures the updating of specifications, methods, and procedures.
- Contributes to operational improvement activities within Quality Control.
- May participate in internal audits and audits of external analytical service providers.
- May act as a resource during regulatory agency or client audits.
- When the Microbiologist is acting as the Supervisor Delegate, they cannot perform analytical work.
- Management of Material Resources (Budget)
- May approve routine orders in accordance with applicable accounting rules.
- May send materials for external analysis.
- No direct budget management responsibilities.
- Required Knowledge and Skills
- Education
- Bachelor’s degree or Technical degree and relevant experience in a pharmaceutical microbiology laboratory.
- Languages
- French
- English is an asset
- Experience and Specific Knowledge
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in microbiological analyses within a pharmaceutical laboratory.
- Specific Technical Skills
- Knowledge of technologies and equipment in the field.
- Familiarity with standards and references (USP, EP, BP).
- GMP regulations (Health Canada, FDA, European Standards).
- Document management.
- Laboratory instrumentation and metrology.
- Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
- Priority management.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team.
- Client-oriented approach and adherence to deadlines.
