The Wildland Fire Management (WFM) branch contributes to the protection of people, property, and the development of sustainable, fire-resilient Yukon communities and infrastructure. WFM directly maintains and oversees the safe training and operational practices and values natural ecological processes to ensure operational efficiency within the territory. WFM is the primary operational response branch for wildfires and floods within unincorporated areas of the Yukon.
About the Position:
The Meteorologist is responsible for interpreting and assessing meteorological data for fire weather, smoke management, prescribed burn, and the related environmental impact assessments. The incumbent will maintain and upgrade weather data acquisition and programs and develop weather forecast products primarily for use by the Fire Management branch, but also for use by others including geohazard experts and flood forecasters.
