The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Metallurgical/Chemical Engineer to join the Process Technology Team at Clarabelle Mill in Sudbury Ontario, a multi-disciplinary, well-rounded team responsible for the optimization of metal extraction from our ore.

As part of the Process Technology team, the Metallurgical/Chemical Engineer provides expert advice and specialized knowledge to support the Operating and Maintenance departments in safety, process troubleshooting (to meet KPI), plant improvement, R&D, cost control, and process optimization. You will also provide technical support to the Process Technology Section Leader and Operating Superintendent with the development of strategies, process monitoring, planning, and resource utilization.

Your experience and skills will be utilized to assist in the development of work plans, schedules, prioritizations, and execution of continuous improvement and major process improvement projects.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Contribute to the health and safety of all employees in their area through participation in safety plans, process monitoring, management of change, and process hazard analysis.
  • Provide technical support to the Mineral Separation Section Leader and Operating Superintendent with the development of strategies, process monitoring, planning, and resource utilization.
  • Contribute to research and development and Process Development Projects in a manner that meets quality, time, and resource requirements.
  • Coach, mentor, supervise, and lead indirect reports while helping foster the potential of junior team members and co-workers.
  • Achieve results by working within cross-functional team environments and with all groups (Maintenance, Operations, Management) to achieve the desired goals of the business in a safe manner.
  • Analyze plant data and make recommendations to increase efficiencies and deliver on accountabilities of Engineer Metallurgy as required.

About You

Education:

  • University degree.
  • Certification: P.Eng.

Experience:

  • The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five (5) years of experience.

Skills:

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking.
  • Communication (technical and non-technical), systems development, strong technical writing skills along with proven leadership skills in coaching and mentoring.
  • Business acumen and managing for results.
  • Action orientation skills (take calculated risks to achieve goals, visibility, and presence in the workplace). Significant time management and using targets and measures to get work done.
