Work Arrangements: Due to the nature of the work and operational requirements, this position will require full-time physical presence at the NRC work location identified.

The Role

Screening Criteria

Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:

Education

Bachelor’s degree in the Physical, Chemical, Materials Sciences or Chemical or Electrical Engineering.


A PhD in one of these disciplines will be considered an asset.

  • Extensive* hands-on experience in R&D or semiconductor production environment;
  • Extensive* and recent** experience in semiconductor metallization systems and techniques, process development and optimization;
  • Significant*** experience in process integration for III-V semiconductor photonic devices;
  • Significant*** experience in Statistical Process Control (SPC), Design of Experiments (DoE) and MES System;
  • Experience in thinning, lapping, and polishing processes with an in-depth understanding of jigs, pads, conditioning disks and slurries.


*Extensive experience is defined as experience of at least six (6) years.
**Recent experience is defined as experience within the last five (5) years.
***Significant experience is defined as experience of at least two (2) years.

Candidates will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria:

  • Knowledge of metal evaporation and backend and their characterization techniques related to their processes;
  • Knowledge of safe practices for working with chemicals, compressed gases, liquid nitrogen, and electrical, mechanical, and vacuum systems;
  • Knowledge of the use of the design of experiments, process control checks, trend charts, WIP tracking and paperless MES;
  • Proficient ability to identify and diagnose issues within complex processes or fabrication tools, while comprehensively understanding the interdependent nature of process steps across multiple fabrication areas to determine effective solutions;
  • Ability to plan, schedule, and carry out all steps needed to prototype microfabricated semiconductor devices;
  • Proficient ability to safely handle extremely toxic materials during device fabrication are essential.

The intent of this hiring action is to staff this position at the RCO-2 level with a salary range of $82,338 to $114,354.


Note: Please note that the full RO/RCO salary scale has five levels. Salary determination will be based on a review of the candidate’s expertise, outcomes and impacts of their previous work experience relative to the requirements of the level. As such, the initial salary could be within another level of the RO/RCO salary scale (i.e. above or below the intended level for this position).
