Hours: 10-month contract, part-time up to a maximum 15 hrs. per week
Compensation Range: $25-$28 per hour plus 4% vacation pay
Location: Mildred Hall School (after school hours) and occasionally from home

Overview : The Arctic Rose Foundation (ARF) is a registered Canadian charity that provides Indigenous youth living in Northern communities, a safe space to participate and grow through Indigenous-led, arts-based and culturally grounded afterschool programs. The Messy Book Program Supervisor -Yellowknife is responsible for daily on-site support to the youth Community Artist Liaison and Mentor (CALM) Workers and assists them in the coordination, promotion and facilitation of the Messy Book program. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, results-oriented, with strong initiative and the ability to work both independently and within a small program team of a rapidly growing organization.
General Responsibilities
Program Support
• assists CALM Workers to implement the Messy Book program; set-up of program space, organization of supplies, collection and distribution of registration forms and other program-related documents
• hosts weekly program meetings with the CALM Workers to log hours, team build, plan upcoming program activities and submit data to the Program Manager or designate
• hosts monthly in-person Guest Artists sessions and provides artist with on-the-ground logistical support
• communicates with Program Partners regarding day-to-day program operations
• promotes the program through approved school and community channels
• assists the Program Manager or designate in planning and coordination of special events
CALM Worker Support
• Assists with the ongoing local recruitment, training and retention of youth CALM Workers
• Collects paperwork and assists with the completion of all onboarding requirement for CALM Workers
• Consistent on-site presence for the duration of the program, encouraging CALM Worker accountability and program ownership
• Ensure that CALM Workers and all involved in the program follow all health and safety requirements, policies and procedures
• leads program registration for local Messy Book Programs and ensures parental consents are signed, sends copies of registrations to local partner and ARF headquarters.
• distributes taxi chits for program participants and maintains the travel log
Staff Supervision
• schedule and supervise youth staff (CALM Workers)
• ensures that CALM Workers and all children, youth and program guests follow all ARF health and safety requirements, policies and procedures
• reviews CALM Worker hours for payroll submission
• assists Program Manager to schedule special coaching and mentoring opportunities
Inventory
• assists CALM Workers to prepare art supply requests
• completes monthly supply inventory of program supplies and materials.to submit to the Program Team
• Picks up snacks via ARF charge account from local vendor, ensuring they are in line with school-safe approved snacks list, avoiding any allergens reported by program participants
• Responsible for safe storage and operation of program equipment including the CALM Worker laptop and wireless speaker
• Responsible to distribute taxi vouchers for CALM Workers and program participants as approved and tracking the usage to submit to the Program Team
General
• integrates a cultural cognizance in all aspects of staff supervision and program delivery.
• Integrates Inuit and Indigenous culture into daily program operation
• participates in staff meetings and trainings as required
• assist with any other administrative tasks as assigned by the Program Manager
• adheres to all Arctic Rose Foundation policies and procedures
Qualifications
• high school diploma or post-secondary certification
• minimum of one-year’s program or administrative work experience
• minimum of one year’s experience working with children and youth
• previous experience working with Inuit or Indigenous communities is an asset
• knowledge of standard office administrative practices and procedures
Knowledge and Skills
• ability to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing
• ability to communicate in Inuktitut or another Indigenous language is an asset
• takes initiative and collaborates effectively both in-person and virtually
• basic computer skills, Microsoft Office and virtual conferencing software knowledge
• excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Conditions of Work
• successful completion of a vulnerable sector check
• proof of up-to-date vaccinations
• position is based in Yellowknife and works out of partner Mildred Hall space.
• possible opportunities to travel to other remote northern communities
• valid driver’s license and access to a car is an asset
• available to be in the afterschool space approximately 3:00pm to 5:30pm each weekday
• occasional evening and weekend work is required
