The Radiation Therapy Department at the Walker Family Cancer Centre (WFCC) is an expanding program that provides state-of-the-art treatment planning, simulation, and treatment for external beam radiation. Our centre has 3 Linear Accelerators and a CT simulator. The radiation therapist works within a multi-disciplinary department team consisting of Radiation Oncologists, Medical Physicists, Oncology Nursing, Booking Clerks, Secretaries, and Health Care Aides who collaboratively provide comprehensive patient-centred support to create the best patient experience per the values of Niagara Health.
The duties and responsibilities of the Radiation Therapist include:
- Administering radiation treatment according to a radiation oncologists' orders for the delivery of radiation planning and treatment.
- Adherence to the College of Medical Radiation Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO) Standards of Practice.
- Documentation of technical and patient related treatment information.
- Integrating reflection, critical thinking, education, and relevant practical experience in problem-solving.
- Active participation in quality assurance programs.
- Performing other related duties and activities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Radiation Technology Program in Radiation Therapy.
- Current registration with the College of Medical Radiation Technologists of Ontario in Radiation Therapy M.R.T(T).
- Current CMRITO membership.
- Current BCLS certification with ongoing re-certification mandatory.
- Excellent technical, communication, organizational, patient assessment, and critical analysis skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Demonstrated adaptability, flexibility, compassion, and initiative when dealing with patients/families.
- Strong organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize workload.
- Applies NH values and professional practice standards to patient/client care and service.
- Knowledge of computer systems and general office software.
- Proficiency in both official languages (English and French) will be considered an asset.
- Consistent and regular attendance required.
