Job Description

The Medical Laboratory Technologist reports to the Charge Technologist of the Advanced Diagnostics team.

Accountabilities:

Responsibilities within this modality include but are not limited to:

  1. Perform the range of tests and procedures related to immunohistochemistry and molecular pathology.
  2. Performing, interpreting, and releasing results.
  3. Assisting with the evaluation and implementation of new technology.
  4. Ensure that the work of assigned staff meets quality and safety standards; identifies opportunities for improvement.
  5. Perform projects, validations, and proficiency testing as directed by charge technologist or director.

Qualifications:

Medical laboratory technologist with CSMLS certification.
Current registration with CMLTO in good standing.
Immunohistochemistry or molecular testing experience is an asset.
Recent work experience with clinical gene technologies including:

  1. DNA/RNA extraction from various sample types.
  2. Nucleic acid sequencing.
  3. Next generation sequencing.
Proficient with single-gene testing by point-of-care PCR.
Experience with quality assurance, quality control testing, quality assurance assessments, and accreditation.
Proficient in immunohistochemical testing (e.g. antigen retrieval, staining, etc.) according to strict protocols and guidelines.
Experience in antibody validation and implementation.
Proficient with embedding and microtomy.
Proficient with sample preparation and nucleic acid extraction for gene sequencing.
Successful completion within the past two years of continuing education courses focused on immunohistochemistry and molecular testing preferable.
Experience with histology instrumentation an asset.
Strong ability to multitask, be flexible, and responsive to conflicting priorities.
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication (verbal and written) skills required.
Experience coordinating workflow and prioritizing in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrate excellence in organization and time management skills to meet deadlines.
Demonstrate mature judgment and initiative and ability to effectively problem solve.
Proven ability to work in a team environment; able to work independently as required.
Must possess strong motivation skills as well as being self-motivated.
Proven dedication to continuing education and continuous learning.

Excellent attendance and punctuality record.
Commitment and accountability to position.
Ability to work and travel between all Osler sites as needed.

Additional Information:

Two (2) positions to fill.
Hours: Currently Days/Evenings/Nights, including weekends and statutory holidays (subject to change in accordance with operational requirements).
