Education and Training
- Graduate of a recognized Cytogenetic/ Molecular specific program.
- Current professional registration and licensure with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario.
- Current WHMIS certification and Mask Fit. Ministry of Labour ‘Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.
Experience
- Recent and relevant experience in clinical genomic testing is required.
- Experience with the following techniques (e.g. nucleic acid extraction and handling, PCR (end point, real-time, digital), capillary electrophoresis for fragment length analysis, high-throughput sequencing (aka next generation sequencing) is required.
Knowledge/ Skills/ Ability
- Excellent clinical laboratory technical skills.
- Demonstrated ability to perform components of Genomics testing to include extractions of RNA/DNA, Polymerase Chain Reactions (PCR), harvest of blood and bone marrow, FISH slides and other duties as assigned.
- Demonstrated ability to recognize, troubleshoot and communicate equipment/reagent related malfunctions and initiate appropriate remedial action.
- Demonstrated computer skills and competencies associated with data analysis programs and laboratory information systems.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Clinical Laboratory Quality Assurance Programs and proficiency testing requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to follow established policies and procedures to ensure privacy and safety of customers, coworkers and self.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to new technologies and processes.

- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the proven ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians and other health care professionals.
- Ability to participate in continuing education opportunities.
