The Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority - Stanton Territorial Hospital (NTHSSA) is offering challenging nursing work and work-life balance. Join our health care team as a Medical Reprocessing Device Porter. Stanton Territorial Hospital (STH) is a 100 in-patient bed accredited facility located in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories (NWT). This is an exciting time to work at Stanton as the hospital is undergoing major redevelopment with a new $350 million facility being built, with operations scheduled to transition into the new facility in 2019. STH is the referral center for approximately 43,000 NWT residents and 5,900 residents from the Kitikmeot Region of Nunavut. STH provides health care services to adults and children on an inpatient/outpatient and outreach basis in order to restore health with dignity. STH maintains a tobacco-free environment within the building and throughout the property, recognizing the health hazards associated with tobacco in the workplace, both to smokers and non-smokers alike.

Job Information

The Medical Device Reprocessing Porter plays a crucial role in infection control and contamination prevention. They are responsible for transporting reusable medical devices, including scopes, between units and procedure rooms, and delivering sterile supplies throughout the facility. The porter ensures multiple daily transports of sterile and contaminated devices and restocks carts and supply rooms with necessary consumables.

The incumbent will be expected to multitask in a fast-paced environment, staying focused and organized while ensuring compliance with Canadian Standards Association (CSA) standards and hospital policies. Care must be taken at all times in the handling of potentially infectious or toxic materials; the incumbent must understand that failure of proper equipment handling could result in adverse patient outcomes.

To be successful in this role, you will typically need a Secondary School diploma and 1 (one) year of directly related experience working in a warehouse/logistics/distribution environment dealing with inventories, or in a hospital setting with experience in the handling/distribution of medical supplies.

Salary Information

The salary for this position starts at $34.46 per hour (approximately $67,197 per annum) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3,700.
