The Opportunity
The Public Service Commission is seeking an analytical, resourceful, detail-oriented medical accommodation expert to join us as a Medical Accommodation Consultant in the Employee Wellbeing and Inclusion Branch. As part of a dedicated team of medical accommodation experts, you will work collaboratively with ministry partners to develop plans to assist employees to safely stay at work or return to work across executive government.

As a Medical Accommodation Consultant, you will:

  • Provide consulting services and support to client managers on employee accommodation including advising managers on how to support employees to be at work through an illness or injury, using a consistent approach;
  • Support managers in gathering and review of medical information for accommodation requirements and create accommodation and/or RTW plans, including attending accommodation meetings with the manager and employee, if required;
  • Build client knowledge on existing legislation, policies and processes related to employment accommodation;
  • Participate in the implementation of corporate strategy on accommodation in the workplace within the Government of Saskatchewan Public Service;
  • Champion the work and communicate corporate direction on employee accommodation, support the promotion of employee wellness and programming in the Government of Saskatchewan;
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of programs, policies and building organizational capacity through the development/delivery of resources, tools, training on employee accommodation;
  • Accessing research insights and monitor accommodation workplace best practices, human resource trends and issues, environmental scans, etc., to sustain deep expertise in accommodation and disability management.

Ideal Candidate

  • To be successful in the role, you will have:
  • Strong knowledge and experience with medical accommodation principles, practices, and processes, including an understanding of legislation, policies, and collective bargaining agreements;
  • Can, in an informed way, speak to current trends and issues related to the duty to accommodate;
  • Ability to interpret complex content, apply to strategy and action in a work environment, and transfer knowledge to others;
  • The ability to identify and apply leading practices and provided interpretations in medical accommodation and disability management;
  • Superior organizational and time management skills to successfully manage competing priorities;
  • Ability to build capacity in others through coaching, teaching, motivating and feedback;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Typically, the knowledge and experience required to achieve the above is obtained through:

  • A bachelor’s degree specializing in human resource management or disability and/or community vocational rehabilitation diploma or with demonstrated progressive work experience in the areas listed above.
