Pursuit is seeking a Media Relations Specialist to join our marketing team. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Media Relations, this person is responsible for contributing to the development and execution of media relations and influencer marketing strategies to help enhance brand awareness and drive corporate growth. With a solid foundation of storytelling and exceptional writing background, this position will also support corporate communications initiatives including issues management.

What will you do in this job?

Pursuit is seeking a Media Relations Specialist to join our marketing team. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Media Relations, this person is responsible for contributing to the development and execution of media relations and influencer marketing strategies to help enhance brand awareness and drive corporate growth. With a solid foundation of storytelling and exceptional writing background, this position will also support corporate communications initiatives including issues management.

MAJOR RESPONSIBLITIES

  • Contribute to the development of strategic media relations plans to raise awareness of Pursuit and its individual attractions and travel experiences.
  • Plan and execute of in-market media campaigns itineraries including group FAM trips, individual media visits, influencer campaigns, and broadcast productions.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with regional, national and international consumer and travel trade media.
  • Demonstrate expert proficiency in public relations writing. This includes the development of press releases, key messaging statements, media briefs and additional communications collateral.
  • Develop and nurture strong and mutually beneficial relationships with external tourism partners.
  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of current public relations reporting practices and an understanding of the role that reporting plays in measuring success of a communications campaign.
  • Work with external PR agencies to deliver on objectives and strategies.
  • Support Pursuit’s social media strategies through the execution of influencer marketing campaigns.
  • Attend and represent Pursuit at marketplace events, conferences, dinners and liaise with media in-market.
  • Maximize relationships internally (Sales, Marketing, Guest Experience, Operations, etc across all geographies) to augment travel PR activities across all markets.

What skills and experience do you need for this job?

Experience

  • One – two years’ experience, ideally in media relations or public relations
  • University degree in public relations, communications or journalism.
  • Solid foundation and expertise in writing required.
  • Firm understanding of public relations fundamentals.
  • Experience building media relationships in international markets preferred.
  • Ability to work independently with the support of the larger marketing team, to manage high-level strategies as well as administrative tasks.
  • Strong planning, time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills are essential including inter-department collaboration, relationship management and conflict management.
  • Excellent organizational skills and can lead a project from conception to implementation and evaluation.
  • Able to travel internationally as required.
  • Experience using media monitoring and database platforms is considered an asset.
  • Proficient in Teams and Office 365.
