OUR CLIENT
An opportunity exists in our client’s Calgary office for a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer (EITs will also be considered) to join a leading firm across Western Canada. This company has a well-established presence and a strong portfolio of work across a variety of sectors.

THE ROLE
In this role, you will be responsible for working through all phases of the mechanical engineering on a variety of building projects ranging in size and complexity, and be involved in liaising with clients and external stakeholders. This role will start as or develop into a Project Lead type of responsibility.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Coordinate with other disciplines internally as well as externally with consultants and architects.
  2. Ensure professional quality services in all facets of work.
  3. Provide quality and cost control during the design and construction process.
  4. Work with the project team to ensure technical accuracy of project deliverables.
  5. Manage project activities throughout lifecycle, including the allocation of adequate resources, documentation, and other factors necessary for success.
  6. Prepare and review specifications and concept reports.
  7. Maintain project schedules and project cost summaries to track work progress, budget status and manpower resource utilization.
  8. Work with the field review team during the construction phase and ensure ASHRAE compliance and LEED where applicable.
  9. Contribute to the design of building HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems.
  10. Coordinate and be responsible for mechanical engineering designs, drawings, and specifications.
  11. Collaborate with architects and project teams to ensure design requirements are met and to solve design problems and technical issues.
  12. Nurture and maintain strong client relationships in and for execution of projects.
  13. Conduct peer reviews of engineering calculations, drawings, and specifications within the mechanical team.

WHAT’S REQUIRED
  1. Registered EIT or Engineer with APEGA.
  2. 4+ years of experience in Mechanical Engineering with good knowledge and hands-on experience working with Canadian building codes.
  3. Experience working with mechanical systems of commercial, institutional, or multi-family buildings is essential (oil and gas or industrial buildings will not be considered).
  4. Thorough understanding of mechanical engineering concepts and ability to communicate ideas to others.
  5. Experience working with business development activities or a strong interest in doing this.
  6. High energy and dynamic individual.
  7. Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards.
  8. Knowledge of and experience with high performance and sustainable building practices an asset.
  9. Excellent knowledge of national and provincial building codes and standards.
  10. Exposure to BIM and Revit will be an asset, so as to be able to review drawings.
  11. Good organization, coordination, and project management skills to maintain project schedules and budgets.
  12. Good verbal communication and soft skills - able to work effectively with clients, teams, and consultants.
  13. Able to work in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects simultaneously.
