Job Description

We are currently looking for a Mechanical Energy Engineer in our Edmonton office. Our Energy practice is growing, and we’re looking for a skilled and motivated mechanical design-focused individual to join our team! This position offers a wide range of exciting renewable and low-carbon energy projects, including district energy, geoexchange, geothermal, biomass, waste heat recovery, CHP, and efficiency improvements. We serve a wide range of client sectors across Western Canada. Our projects have been some of the largest and most complex climate-change mitigation focused solutions around!

The successful candidate’s duties will include participating in studies and designs of renewable energy mechanical systems, pipe stress analysis, registration of pressure piping systems, HVAC systems, energy efficiency upgrades, and energy plans, for both new builds and retrofits.

Job Requirements

What you will bring:

  1. An undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, or other related discipline, from an accredited post-secondary institution.
  2. Registered, or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with APEGA.
  3. 3+ years of relevant experience.
  4. Experience delivering detailed designs and audits of modern HVAC systems and process heating systems, including commercial hydronic heating and cooling systems, heat pumps, high-efficiency boilers, heat exchangers, wastewater heating systems, and low carbon and district energy systems.
  5. Experience or interest in delivering feasibility studies and detailed designs of renewable and high-performance energy technologies including geoexchange, biomass, waste heat recovery, CHP, and district heating/cooling plants.
  6. Experience conducting feasibility studies on various energy projects.
  7. Experience with writing specifications and conducting specification reviews.
  8. Experience with ASME B31.1, B31.3, and B31.9 piping design guidelines.
  9. Experience with pressure piping registration as per the National Safety Code.
  10. Experience with pipe design software such as PASS/START Prof or similar.
  11. Ability to use AutoCAD, Revit, and/or other modelling tools is an asset.
  12. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  13. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  14. Valid class 5 driver's license with availability to travel, if required.
  15. Experience with instrumentation and controls is an asset.
