Position Overview:
Mechanics play an important role in ensuring proper performance, safety and reliability of vehicles and ground service equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Including but not limited to):
- Accountable for local maintenance scheduling and performance to ensure equipment dependability;
- Perform all duties of a skilled maintenance technician following recognized procedures for such work, as required;
- Ability to read and use maintenance manuals, illustrated parts catalogs, schematics, blueprints, drawings, and other related maintenance documents to complete work assignments;
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical and hydraulic problems and resolve within an established timeframe;
- Maintain complete and accurate maintenance records and conduct scheduled and unscheduled inspections on equipment;
- Perform mechanical repairs to all Inland equipment, including independent diagnosis and repair of engines, transmissions, differentials, electrical, hydraulic systems, brake repair and replacement, pump repair and/or replacement, etc.;
- Operate equipment within close proximity to airfield personnel, aircraft and other airfield equipment safely and efficiently;
Please note: Must be able to obtain and maintain any applicable Transport Canada Security Clearance and additional authorizations (Restricted Area Identity Card and Airside Vehicle Operators Permit).
Required Skills and Experience:
- Must have a 310T or 310S mechanic licence
- Certified Journeyman Heavy Duty Technician or registered apprentice considered an asset;
- High school diploma or equivalent;
- Must be at least 18 years old;
- Must possess basic hand tools common to the trade up to 1/2" drive;
- Must be available and flexible to work variable shifts including weekends and holidays;
- Must be able to speak and hear efficiently;
- Basic to intermediate computer skills;
- Effective time management and organizational skills to manipulate multiple tasks and conflicting deadlines at once;
- Knowledge of fluid types, diesel powered machines and tools including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance;
- Maintain and treat all information as confidential;
- Must be able to read, write, understand and carry out instructions in English;
- Must be able to verbally direct in English;
- Possess the tact to deal with all levels of employees and client representatives;
- Proven knowledge and use of standard and specialty tools and specialized testing equipment (i.e. photo tachometer, diagnostics tools and hardware, scanners and meters);
- A valid driver’s license is required for this position.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms, speak and hear efficiently;
- Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, pushing and pulling;
- Ability to lift, push, and pull objects up to fifty (50) pounds occasionally and twenty (20) pounds regularly;
- Ability to climb 15-foot heights;
- Ability to clearly see close-up and at a distance with ability to differentiate colour; use peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus;
