Job description

POSITION TYPE TERM (12 Months), FULL-TIME (Wed – Sun, 11 am – 7 pm)

Reporting to the Meal Program Supervisor, the Meal Coordinator assists with ensuring RMHC Manitoba’s meal program’s standards of health, safety, and sanitation are maintained. The Meal Coordinator will work closely with the Meal Supervisor to ensure that maintenance of a high-quality, inclusive, and healthy menu to serve within both the House and Family Room programs seven days a week. This includes coordination of seasonal meals as well as working with cultural/dietary needs and special events. The successful applicant must be self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. The candidate must exude a caring, professional, positive attitude and be a team player willing to help wherever needed.

General Responsibilities:
  • Support the Meal Supervisor with cost effectiveness and efficiency is key when planning meals and manage meal program expense reports
  • Support the Meal Supervisor with organization and inventory of supplies and equipment to maximize in-kind partners and general donations
  • Keeping the kitchen clean, organized, and compliant with food safety standards
  • Establish a positive rapport with all program volunteers, guiding and engaging volunteers to assist with meal programming, as well as providing training to ensure food quality and safety is met
  • Collaboration with Meal Supervisor to create menus that accommodate allergies, cultural preferences, and nutritional guidelines
  • Ensure accurate recordkeeping of meal program components (Home for Dinner Program hosts, meals, Grab n’ Go station, Family Help Yourself Freezer), meal program reporting numbers for board reports, marketing, stewardship, or as needed
  • Communicate relevant meal program updates to the Meal Supervisor or other staff as needed
  • Provide necessary meal program reporting numbers for board reports, marketing, stewardship, or as needed
  • Assist Meal Supervisor with strengthening existing in-kind donor and build new partnerships to support the RMHC Manitoba Meal Program
  • Assist Meal Supervisor with additions to Wish List to ensure most needed items are included
  • Other duties as assigned
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Minimum 3-year experience in food services or a non-profit community food program (school setting, hospital, dietary aid, restaurant)
  • Current Food Safety Certificate and valid First Aid/CPR certificate
  • Respect and understand the importance of food safety compliance
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and go between House and Family Room programs
  • Strong written and verbal communication with excellent customer service skills
  • Strong culinary skills with knowledge of nutrition, meal planning, and food safety regulations
  • Calm and caring manner with a desire to serve others
  • Ability to respond appropriately in the event of an emergency
  • Strong budget and inventory management skills
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of data entry
