Position Summary
In the position of Health and Safety Specialist MMTL, you will coordinate with the Operations office staff as well as the Human Resources department. Your core responsibility will be to promote a culture of operational excellence and safety awareness.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:
- Coordinates the local implementation of integrated frameworks for HSE related management systems and coordinates effective processes and frameworks to monitor and measure conformance;
- Monitors, reviews and analyzes applicable regulations and communicates information on changes in the regulatory environments and delegates responsibility for further analysis and implementation;
- Leads, coordinates, or participates on multidisciplinary project teams;
- Conducts job hazard analysis and directs completion of corrective actions;
- Provides site specific work instructions for day to day tasks;
- Conducts workplace safety inspections and safety talks;
- Acts as site HS committee member.
Required Qualifications- A Bachelor’s degree in health, safety, or environmental field or equivalent experience required.
- Five or more years of HSE work experience.
- Thorough working understanding of Canadian Occupational Health and Safety laws and regulations is essential.
- Working understanding of Maritime Occupational Health and Safety.
- Relevant best practices as guided by the Marine Industry standards.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong verbal and written communications skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask.
- Familiarity with risk management.
- Experience working with a unionized workforce is an asset.
