Job description

Department: Production Planning, ARC’One

Reports to: Manufacturing Planning Manager

Location: New Westminster

Your Opportunity at ARC’TERYX:

ARC’One, our manufacturing facility, located in New Westminster, accounts for approximately 10% of our global production and employs over 400 people. It has been named to the Great Place to Work Canada 2020 list of Canada’s Best Workplaces in Manufacturing.

Our proximity to the Design Center and the hands-on craftsmanship mindset makes us a unique and exciting place to work. ARC’One is our laboratory. We experiment, we test, and we produce our new products all under the hustling and bustling production environment. This is where products physically come to life.

As the Material Purchaser, you are responsible for production material and factory supplies purchasing to ensure the material resources are consistent with production schedules and the facility’s daily operation. In this role, you will leverage relationships with our suppliers to optimize terms and pricing, minimize shortages, improve lead time, and ensure on-time delivery of all raw materials. You will also collaborate with internal teams to drive continuous improvement of our procurement processes.

Meet Your Future Team

The Manufacture Planning team is a purpose-driven and process improvement-driven team whose focus is to successfully deliver our finished goods production plan. Our team is focused on optimizing resources and mitigating risks within the facility and vendor base, as well as driving cross-functional communication and alignment to ensure production needs are met as planned.

As the Material Purchaser for ARC’One, you will report to the ARC’One Manufacturing Planning Manager, and you will partner with the Production Management team and Facility Management Team.

If you were our Material Purchaser now, here are some of the core activities you would be doing:

  • Developing and executing the non-production materials buy plan based on the factory’s operation needs.
  • Developing and executing the raw materials buy plan, ensuring accurate inventory flow and tracking to support the production plan, identifying opportunities, and calling out risks to best support business targets and on-time delivery to plan.
  • Manage procurement process, including creating, receiving, closing purchase orders (POs), and invoice matching for the responsible portfolio.
  • Maintain accurate information in the system for Material Requirements Planning (MRP) and POs.
  • Monitor inventory of raw materials to ensure a steady supply of raw materials with minimal shortages.
  • Negotiate terms and pricing with suppliers based on forecast/market changes.
  • Establish necessary processes with suppliers to ensure consistent performance on delivery and quality.
  • Manage material issues, including returns and credit with suppliers.
  • Dive deep into our internal and external workflows and work with several cross-functional teams to develop and implement an ARC’One materials strategy that balances inventory and business needs.
  • Work closely with partners in the Planning team, Production team, and Facility team to identify and develop strategies that leverage agility through our internal supply chain processes.
  • Create and maintain the master data required to support the materials buy plan.

Here are some of the things you could be working on in the future:

  • Working with suppliers and internal stakeholders to improve raw material on-time delivery and lead time performance and consistency.
  • Developing a thorough understanding of our business priorities, focusing the ARC’One materials strategy to deliver against short and long-term needs.

Are you our next Material Purchaser?

  • You have a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Economics, Finance, or similar discipline, along with 3+ years’ experience in purchasing/procurement/buying in a manufacturing environment, preferably within the apparel industry.
  • You have strong experience in negotiation and vendor management.
  • You have experience with MRP systems.
  • You are detail-oriented.
  • You are proficient in the use of Microsoft Office.
  • You have excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • You seek and execute the best (but sometimes not the easiest) solutions, with an unwavering commitment to do what is right.
  • You drive breakthrough thinking and continuous improvement.
  • Your passion for your work is paralleled by your passion for getting outside and living it.
