Job Title: Material Controller
Department: Maintenance
Location: Calgary, AB (YYC)
Work Arrangement: This role is primarily based in the office environment
Position Overview
Reporting to the Supervisor of Material Controllers, the Material Controller will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing the stocking levels and movement of Flair and third-party component inventory to support both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance. This role involves managing the repair process, including core returns and turnaround times, and ensuring all documentation for component repair transactions is complete. The Material Controller is expected to work independently with minimal supervision in an aircraft hangar or storeroom environment. Shift work and occasional travel are required. The role may involve working in inclement weather, walking or standing for extended periods, and performing heavy lifting. Additionally, candidates should be prepared to bend, stretch, stoop, reach, and climb, and may be exposed to hazardous chemicals.
Primary Job Functions
- Source and purchase all aircraft parts and tooling required for scheduled maintenance, including support for the AOG Desk
- Plan logistics for maintenance checks, including BOM progression and exception management
- Manage and replenish consumable consignment stock in coordination with suppliers
- Set and adjust AMOS Reorder Levels (ROL)
- Oversee rotable control and asset management, including coordination between FAL and contracted organizations, core returns, and HBK management
- Manage vendor and supplier relationships
- Handle stock repair management for FAL-owned items
- Resolve internal and external quarantine issues with Stores
- Upload catalogs for the consumable team
- Manage redundant stock
- Match invoices with purchase orders
- Verify pricing for accounts
- Control invoicing for loans in and out of FAL
- Liaise with MSC Managers on matters affecting company forecasting
- Track, record, and optimize results during AOG material situations
- Attend pre-input meetings, address and report material issues, and ensure Material Planners are informed of ongoing issues at final pre-input meetings
- Promote and implement improvements and development opportunities
- Coordinate with MCC, Hangar, Line Supervisors, and Tech Services Engineers for effective advanced material planning and cross-departmental communication
- Adhere to departmental procedures
- Resolve internal and external problems fairly and ethically, protecting the company’s interests
- Provide outsourced material support on a voluntary basis
- Ensure compliance with safety, health, environment, and quality policies and procedures
- Maintain a professional image in all customer and supplier interactions
- Foster effective communication and teamwork
- Keep the department and equipment clean and organized to maintain a high professional standard
- Contribute to continuous business improvement
- Perform any other reasonable and ad-hoc duties as required by the Material Managers
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education:
- High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) equivalent
- Experience:
- Minimum two (2) years of previous experience working in an airline setting
- Training and/or experience in inventory management and purchasing is an asset
- Skills & Abilities:
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Excel, Word, Teams, and Outlook)
- Ability to work irregular hours or shift work, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, with a varying schedule
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as purchase orders, shipping, and receiving information
- Demonstrated problem-solving, attention to detail, accuracy, and time management skills
- Ability to prioritize in a time-sensitive environment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including interpersonal communication
- Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders
- Able to work effectively independently and as part of a team
- Ability to travel occasionally as required, possibly on short notice
- Knowledge of the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) as they apply to 705 operations is an asset
- Knowledge of aircraft parts is preferred; knowledge of common hardware is essential

- Requirements:
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC)
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Driver’s Airside (D/A) license within six months of employment start date
- Valid Canadian Driver’s License
- Complete and pass Transportation of Dangerous Goods and Quality Control (QC) training
- Clear criminal record check and satisfactory employment references
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada without restriction
