Job description

The City of Edmonton is seeking a dynamic and creative Marketing Advisor for an 11-month term. This position offers the exciting opportunity to play a key role in the launch and early operations of the Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre, a facility that will significantly enhance community recreation and create new opportunities for year-round triathlon and cycling training and events.

The successful candidate will develop and implement a comprehensive marketing plan to generate community excitement and public awareness, and drive facility usage for this unique community asset. This role will be instrumental in ensuring the successful opening and early adoption of Coronation by the community and athletes. What will you do?

  • Identify and lead appropriate market research activities
  • Research and development of key audiences
  • Create and implement a comprehensive marketing communications plan to promote the launch and programming of the Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre
  • Collaborate with team members to develop program-specific marketing and promotion plans
  • Use innovative marketing tactics, leveraging various channels to reach target audiences
  • Develop integrated marketing tools and oversee the production of compelling materials
  • Lead the development of the Coronation webpage, including content, navigation and visual elements
  • Write, produce and distribute marketing assets and advertising
  • Coordinate photoshoots, videoshoots, design and production with subject matter experts as needed
  • Develop compelling social media content
  • Write copy for publications, websites, ads, media releases, and newsletters
  • Work collaboratively with other internal teams in the development, creation and implementation of materials
  • Ensure alignment with corporate standards and brand guidelines
  • Plan and coordinate logistics for marketing outreach, including community events and stakeholder meetings
  • Initiate contact with media representatives and manage Coronation media inquiries in conjunction with the Media Relations Unit
  • Lead in the planning and execution of promotional events
  • Liaise with City departments, the private sector, and community groups to develop cross-promotions and marketing events
  • Keep internal stakeholders informed
  • Monitor, track, and report on marketing goals and sales, providing recommendations for improvement
  • Maintain a detailed budget and provide regular expenditure reports

Qualifications

  • University graduation in Commerce, Business, Marketing, Communications or a related degree, with coursework in market research, communications, social marketing and/or digital marketing
  • Minimum 2 years of marketing experience

Assets:

  • Experience working in a large complex organization
  • Experience in a municipal government environment

Skills required for success:

  • Demonstrated experience in successfully developing, implementing and evaluating strategic and innovative marketing programs with proven results
  • Experience overseeing video production, proficiency in social media platforms, digital marketing, and traditional media
  • Ability to identify target audiences and tailor messaging to resonate with them
  • Passion for staying up-to-date with industry trends and innovations in marketing outreach
  • Excel at developing and implementing highly creative ideas
  • Ability to analyze interrelated factors pertaining to product and service planning and market conditions
  • Experience building, managing and maintaining relationships with external partners, senior leaders and all levels of the corporation
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering presentations to leadership, facilitating large groups, and public speaking
  • Exceptional demonstration of talent for establishing and nurturing responsive and trusting business relationships
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and external clients in person and through virtual online channels
  • Creative problem-solving skills to overcome challenges in outreach efforts
  • Ability to express ideas effectively and to prepare and present briefs and reports to executive-level personnel
  • Ability to self-motivate and work collaboratively in a team environment

Work Environment:

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends to attend events on occasion is required
  • Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52.
  • The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.

Salary Range:

  • 33.75 hours: $41.172 - $51.438 (Hourly) $72,534.770 - $90,620.900 (Annually)
  • 40 hours: $38.908 - $48.610 (Hourly) $81,240.05 - $101,496.77 (Annually)
