Position Summary:

As a Marine Service Provider and Certified Response Organization, Point Tupper Marine Services (PTMS) is required to support marine service operations and maintain and adequate level of preparedness to respond to marine environmental impacts.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Marine Operations Manager to oversee and manage all aspects of our marine operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in equipment maintenance and safety protocols. This role involves ensuring the efficient and safe operation of our fleet, coordinating with various departments, and maintaining compliance with all relevant regulations. Responsibilities include strategic planning, resource allocation, continuous improvement of operational processes, budget management, and fostering relationships with key stakeholders. The successful candidate will possess excellent leadership skills, attention to detail, and the ability to make critical decisions under pressure. Staying updated with the latest industry trends and technologies is essential to ensure our operations remain innovative. A proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and efficiency are crucial.

Education, Experience and Skills Requirement:

  • At least five years of experience in a marine-related field.
  • Post secondary education in a related discipline is preferred, such as marine or heavy equipment mechanical.
  • Advanced knowledge of marine spill response operations and response management.
  • Knowledge of outboards, small engines, and tractor trailers is an asset.
  • Ability to read and understand procedures.
  • Valid travel documents.
  • Valid driver's license; Class 1A is an asset.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent verbal, written communication, organizational, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Ability to read and interpret accounting reports.
  • Strong background in equipment reliability programs and management.
  • Working knowledge of SAP preferred.
  • Proven budgeting and resource management skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and committed to fostering a safe working environment.
  • Experience in the Oil/Gas industry is an asset.

Major Accountabilities:

  • Coordinate the day-to-day operations of PTMSL, including planning and maintenance of facilities, emergency response equipment, and scheduling of personnel, including work assignments, training, vacations, and overtime.
  • Act as The Operations Section Chief (OSC) within the Incident Command System to manages tactical incident activities, achieve incident objectives and oversees Incident Action Plan (IAP) implementation during a marine incident.
  • Develop department objectives, strategies, and tactics aligned with Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) & Guiding Principles.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and PTMS Safety Management Systems. Develop policies, implement programs, and conduct audits to improve HSE performance.
  • Support required training and exercises as a certified response organization with the Safety Manager & Team
  • Plan, manage budgets and control capitol & operational costs. Analyze financial and operational information and adjust budget projections as required.
  • Maintain SAP systems for accounting, maintenance, and to track repair activities.
  • Manage equipment inventories and operations items.
  • Assist in recruiting of new marine Responders and participate in the "Contractor on Board".
  • Engage with PTMS response partners & stakeholders to promote issues of mutual interests and identify opportunities for collaborative partnerships.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring to staff, including performance reviews.
  • Prepare monthly activity and expense summaries.
  • Perform other duties as required.

The employee may be required to:

  • Stand; use hands to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Lift up to 50 lbs or drag and/or move up to 100 lbs
  • Work for extended periods in the case of an oil spill response event
  • Work on boats (at times in adverse weather conditions)
  • Work outdoors (at times in adverse weather conditions)

Work Environment:

  • The noise level in the work environment can be excessive and may require hearing protection.
  • Must be physically prepared to work in outdoor environments in all weather conditions.
  • May be required to travel for training purposes.
  • Must be able to wear PPE including SCBA/respirator, fire retardant clothing, hearing and eye protection, head protection, steel-toed shoes.
  • Must have a positive working attitude and maintain good relations with associates.
  • Must be a self-starter and willing to adapt to changing conditions.
