Manufacturing Team Lead - Afternoon Shift - Mon-Fri - 3-11:30 PM

Summary:

The Production Team Lead is responsible for leading the Production Shift and ensuring finished products meet company standards and are available to meet daily shipping schedules. This position is also responsible for setting up and starting production lines as well as staging raw materials for production.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Reports to Production Supervisor on plant issues, such as material availability and finished stock levels.
2. Liaison with other departments to enable the department to function effectively, specifically, works with batch manufacturer, quality control and laboratory staff, as well as Warehouse Supervisor on stock levels.
3. Checks to ensure all required paperwork is complete and accurate before submission to QA or the Production Supervisor.
4. Assists the Maintenance Manager with maintenance on equipment and machinery, when required.
5. Assigns work for plant staff (in the absence of the Production Supervisor).
6. Ensures stock is controlled and maintained (in the absence of the Production Supervisor).
7. Works along with team to fill containers with product on filling line and lifting product onto skids.
8. Set-up packaging equipment. Troubleshoot any packaging equipment issues.
9. Works to ensure team is meeting all productivity and quality targets.
10. Ability to understand and achieve quantitative and qualitative standards.
11. Responsible for resolving minor conflicts between employees or addressing minor performance issues. All such incidents are to be reported to their Manager. At their discretion, is empowered to send a team member home, however, the Production Supervisor shall be informed ASAP to investigate and determine if any formal disciplinary action is warranted.
12. Monitor and report on the performance of team members to the Production Supervisor.
13. Ensures good housekeeping standards are achieved and maintained at all times within the department.
14. Ensures plant workers perform their duties in a safe manner and with the protective devices, measures and procedures required by applicable government Acts and Regulations, including ensuring the use of the appropriate protective equipment.
15. Must become familiar with the rules and safety programs applicable, follow prescribed health and safety policies and procedures and participate in the process of identifying, reporting and assisting in eliminating risks to health and safety in the workplace.
16. Advises Health and Safety Committee and management of the existence of any potential or actual danger to the health and safety of the worker of which the Lead Hand is aware.
17. Follow all applicable company policies and procedures.
18. Assist Production Supervisor on review of Master Working Batch Record (MWBR) and Master Packaging Order (MPO) in a timely manner to avoid delay in shipping the products.
19. Any other duties as assigned by the Production Supervisor.

Required Skills / Experience / Competencies:

1. High school diploma.
2. Previous factory supervisory skills acquired through previous work experience or supervisory courses.

Preferred Skills / Experience / Competencies:

1. Excellent knowledge of company product line, product codes and packaging.
2. WHMIS and health and safety training.
3. Working knowledge of company policies and procedures.
4. Excellent knowledge of health and safety regulations.
5. Knowledge of operation of plant equipment including mixing and filling line equipment.
6. Motor skills and manual dexterity to operate plant equipment including filling line.
7. Interpersonal/negotiating skills to deal with staff and other departments, as well as outside contacts.
8. Supervisory/management skills.
9. Judgment in decision-making.
10. Basic mathematical skills to conduct inventory count.
11. Verbal communication skills to deal with fellow workers.
12. Written communication skills to prepare production reports.

Job Requirements:

1. Regular Full time position 5x8 shift per week with possible overtime available depending on business demands.
2. Some lifting of medium to heavy weight containers (up to 23 Kg).
3. Shift Schedule may be subject to change based on the needs of the business.
4. This position is onsite and not eligible for relocation.
