Position Overview
Reporting to the Engineering Leader, you will oversee the manufacturing processes at Garibaldi Glass. Your responsibilities will include developing and maintaining these processes, purchasing and designing equipment, and ensuring documentation and code compliance. As a Manufacturing Process Engineer, your role will be primarily project-oriented, often involving multiple projects at different stages simultaneously.

Key Responsibilities
  • Reviewing and standardizing manufacturing processes to ensure optimal levels are maintained
  • Optimizing manufacturing costing and communicating these costs through all levels of the organization
  • Working closely with maintenance and production to ensure equipment is operating efficiently.
  • Sourcing, designing, installing and commissioning new production equipment, monitoring modifications and upgrades, and troubleshooting existing processes.
  • Conducting process development experiments
  • Preparing and maintaining process documentation and reporting tools
  • Managing cost and time constraints of projects
  • Selecting, managing, and working with sub-contractors
  • Assuming responsibility for risk assessment, including hazard and operability studies, for the health and safety of both company staff and the wider community
  • Making observations and taking measurements directly, as well as collecting and interpreting data from the other technical and operating staff involved
  • Ensuring that all aspects of an operation or process meet specified regulations
  • Setting purchasing specifications and specifying components for electrical and mechanical equipment
  • Conducting process mapping and value stream mapping
  • Accountable to maintain established defect targets, on time delivery targets, and labour efficiency targets through formal root cause corrective action analysis
  • Train on and participate in the continuous improvement / lean manufacturing program
  • Other duties and projects as assigned by the Engineering Leader
Qualifications (Education, Experience, Training)
  • Educational Background: Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics, or college level diploma in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering
  • Industry Expertise: 5+ years experience in a similar role within an industrial environment. Background as an Engineer in an automotive manufacturing facility considered an asset
  • Process Improvement: Experience with Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement methodologies gained through professional or academic settings

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to create and communicate ROI calculations to leadership
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude displayed through an eagerness to understand how things work and how to make things better
  • Strong project management experience with the ability to handle multiple and changing priorities with various deadlines
  • Analytical, trouble shooting and problem-solving skills
  • Previous experience identifying and leading improvement projects utilizing Project Management best practices
  • Strong facilitation and communication skills to collaborate will all levels of the organization
  • Experience creating process documentation.
  • Experience working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint) and AutoCAD
  • Ability to establish and build effective and trusting working relationships
  • Solid ability to plan and keep a dynamic and diverse workload organized to meet deadlines
  • Previous manufacturing experience is considered an asset.
  • Hands on approach and willing to spend 50% of your time on the manufacturing floor
Working Conditions
This position works primarily in an office environment with occasional time spent within a manufacturing environment.
Standard Office (50%):
  • Comfortable indoor area.
  • Comfortable environment with exposure to some dust, dirt or other conditions which might produce mild discomfort
  • Frequent, short periods when it is necessary to pay close attention to the monitoring of sight, and sounds
  • Moderate mental demands due to one or more conditions which are present in the job. There may be noticeable pressure from simultaneous priorities and deadlines
Manufacturing Plant (50%):
  • Temperature controlled indoor area
  • Comfortable environment with exposure to some dust, dirt or other conditions which might produce mild discomfort
  • Frequent, short periods when it is necessary to pay close attention to the monitoring of sight and sounds
  • Safety sensitive environment with mobile equipment and overhead cranes
  • Physically demanding job requiring one to stand for extended periods of time
Working Expectations:
  • Expected to work in the office weekdays with a start time prior to 7:30am
  • Limited ability to work from home
  • Must be flexible to support weekend maintenance work when required. Assume 5-10 weekend days per year (Saturday and/ or Sunday)
  • Must be flexible to support all 3 production shifts for training and troubleshooting. Production typically operates 24h/5 day during the week
  • Must be able to support annual Christmas maintenance shutdown. This is typically the week between Christmas and New Years where we shut down production and conduct annual preventative maintenance and Engineering projects.
