Manufacturing Operations Manager

Position Summary

Top Hand Supplies is a raw pet food / pet treat manufacturer and distributor based in beautiful Cranbrook, BC. The Manufacturing Operations Manager is actively involved in management of the day-to-day manufacturing operations. This key role plays a major part in planning, scheduling, coordinating, implementing, and improving all aspects of the manufacturing operations and processes. The manufacturing operations manager provides hands-on and inspirational leadership and motivation through clear communication, strong organization, respect, effective delegation, training, time/priority management, & critical thinking. As the Manufacturing Operations Manager, you will be accountable for all aspects and decision-making of the departments under your direction. You will work closely with other departments, managers, and ownership with a profitable growth mindset.

  • Build and improve upon our manufacturing operations with a focus on efficiency, automation, and best practices.
  • Perform tracking, costing, budgeting, forecasting, data analysis, and maintain relevant KPIs to ensure the departments are profitable and driving the company forward to reach its goals and objectives.
  • Work with team members and ownership to establish, set, communicate, and maintain or reach the business goals through strategy, mission, & vision in alignment with company values and market needs.
  • Enforce adherence to legal guidelines and in-house policies to maintain the company’s legality and business ethics.
  • Take an active role in operational supervision, training, scheduling, performance management, recruiting, retention, & end of employment.
  • Ensure the departments are effectively tracking and maintaining an adequate throughput of in-demand goods at an acceptable level of efficiency through metric/data driven tracking programs, standardization, & documentation.
  • Ensure the departments maintain regulatory requirements for all governing bodies at all times as required.

Working Conditions

  • Mostly indoors, office & food manufacturing environment.
  • Extended periods of sitting or standing.
  • Can be a very high-pressure environment with demands from multiple parties.
  • Some travel may be required within the scope of this role.

Qualifications & Skills

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Operations Management, or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of experience as an Operations Manager in food manufacturing or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in the pet food industry is considered a strong asset.
  • Experience in the food industry is considered a strong asset.
  • Experience in automation systems implementation is an asset.
  • Experience managing and building teams is required.
  • Strategic thinking and excellent interpersonal communication skills are crucial for this role.
  • Strong & organized analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities are required.
  • Extensive knowledge of the pet food / food / meat manufacturing industry including but not limited to, equipment selection, equipment operation, R&M, efficient line operation, sanitation, automation, & safety.
  • Extensive knowledge of supply chain management with focus on perishable materials and cold chain.
  • Computer competency in general business systems & ERP programs.
  • Extensive knowledge of workplace health and safety regulations and other regulatory requirements as applicable for their department.
  • Knowledge and training on 5S, Lean, and/or TOC is an asset.
  • Ability to give and take unbiased positive and constructive feedback to/from people.
  • Decisive and time-bound decision making.
  • Effectively communicate using concise, easy-to-understand language.
  • Have the ability to recognize potential and limitations of team members and work within those parameters to develop the best team possible.
  • Ability to recognize when a change in the team is required, be it 1 for 1 staff change or move, reduction in staff/role, or addition of staff/role.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $80,000.00-$100,000.00 per year
