Manufacturing Engineering Assistant

The successful candidate's responsibilities will include:

  • Support machine moves, commissioning and decommissioning including coordination with contractors, maintenance, and other departments.
  • Participate in product launches and changes including product costing analyses and implementation of changes in production.
  • Coordinate and direct manufacturing support projects ensuring they are on time, on budget, and within scope.
  • Identify and participate in projects to resolve potential safety hazards involving equipment and processes.
  • Review, analyze and communicate financial justifications for capital expenditures.
  • Validate, improve, and document manufacturing processes for parts and assemblies in business units across multiple plants.
  • Assist with identification, justification, and implementation of new machinery and automation solutions.
  • Support lean manufacturing initiatives, including 5S, SMED, line balancing, waste reduction, time studies, and Kanban.
  • Develop professional skills in continuous improvement, root cause analysis, and manufacturing best practices.
  • Create and maintain job instruction documentation, including facilitating training for production staff and performing process audits.
  • Assist with maintenance of the shop floor layout using 2D CAD software.
  • Assist with machinery modifications to suit changing safety, production, or capacity requirements.
  • Support production with occasional machinery troubleshooting, testing, and validation.
  • Presenting project updates, challenges, and next steps regularly.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate for this position will have:

  • Currently enrolled in a university or college program for Manufacturing, Electrical, Industrial or Mechanical Engineering/Engineering Technology; or similar.
  • CAD knowledge – 3D and/or 2D.
  • Familiarity with reading manufacturing drawings and blueprints.
  • General knowledge of manufacturing processes.
  • Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • General computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment.

  • Able to prioritize tasks to most effectively manage multiple ongoing projects.
  • Knowledge of sheet metal manufacturing processes would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of mechanical design, tooling design, and sheet metal design would be an asset.
