THE POSITION
The Manufacturing Engineer is a methodical, detailed oriented, and creative professional responsible for the transition of products from the prototype phase to the manufacturing phase. The successful candidate will be engaged in developing new manufacturing assembly workflows and instructions and improving current assembly methods.
HOW YOU WILL BE MAKING AN IMPACT
- Work closely with design teams to transition projects from design to manufacturing.
- Conduct root cause analysis and process improvement projects through the use of Lean and six sigma tools
- Assist production by providing technical support, troubleshooting problems in the manufacturing process and provide solutions to build issues.
- Creation and maintenance of Work Instructions and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Assist production with the first build of new products or revisions to existing products.
- Assist with prototype designs ensuring they are ready prior to going into production.
- Provide insight to the assembly sequence for all components through the subassembly and assembly line.
- Ensure that manufacturing processes comply with industry standards such as ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or other relevant quality certifications.
- Maintain accurate documentation of processes, testing, inspections, and corrective actions to meet regulatory and quality system requirements.
- Prepare proposed design changes or revisions to improve the current design.
- Reduce the overall cost of the product by suggesting and implementing cost-reduction projects.
- Design and development of manufacturing jigs and fixtures.
- Review of tooling and fixturing needs to improve the assembly process.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting to resolve quality-related issues in production.
- Work with cross-functional teams to develop corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Research the latest technology and manufacturing practices and introduce these into production.
- Source new equipment and aid in the introduction of new equipment to shop floor staff.
- Manage plant layouts as demand grows, maximizing our use of space while ensuring product travels in the most efficient manner through the facility.
- Lead role in DFM guidelines for manufacturing.
WHAT SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE YOU REQUIRE
- Education: BSc Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology Certificate.
- Minimum 5 years of related engineering experience.
- Extensive background in manufacturing processes and practices.
- Experience in manufacturing processes for electronics, mechanical, and electro-mechanical assemblies.
- Familiarity with Lean and Six Sigma process improvement is considered an asset
- Possess creativity for product development.
- Exposure to design and verification testing methods.
- Strong problem-solving abilities.
- General familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) is an asset.
- Computer knowledge and skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Solid Works or similar CAD software.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- General knowledge of various materials and properties used in processes such as plastics, metal fabrication, rubber, castings, stampings, etc.
- Work well under pressure and under tight timelines.
- High level of organizational skills, detail-oriented, and analytical.
- Must possess excellent communication skills to collaborate with multiple-disciplinary teams.
- An energetic, diligent work ethic and able to work with little supervision.
- Able to travel within Canada, the USA, and internationally, as required.
