Job description

The Job:

Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Software Quality Engineering Manager is responsible for leading multiple scrum teams comprised of Software Engineers and Quality Assurance Analysts through the analysis, design, and implementation of internal software tools and processes. The Manager owns the technical design for development projects and drives the project life cycle from inception to post-go-live experience, using Agile methodologies. Specific activities include improving the value of the quality and testing platforms; providing overall leadership to the engineering organization for quality processes and tools; developing an effective team and an optimal organizational structure; and representing PointClickCare within the industry. The Manager will work closely with teams within the organization to provide consulting services and best practices oversight for Automation, Performance Engineering, and Testing.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Researching, evaluating, and implementing new technology in partnership with stakeholders, ensuring alignment with existing products, platforms, emerging business needs, and engineering best practices.
  2. Being responsible for the direction of Automation and Performance Engineering projects by reviewing and contributing to functional specifications.
  3. Collaborating with Cross Domain Development Managers to collect requirements, define direction, oversee the development of detailed technical specifications, and approve high-level work breakdowns and estimates.
  4. Driving the end-to-end project life cycle, from inception to post-go-live experience by demonstrating true ownership and commitment for project success, while working closely with stakeholders to understand end-user experience and needs.
  5. Providing domain knowledge and technical leadership, and strong management to teams, closely monitoring applications and processes to ensure they are aligned with engineering best practices.
  6. Managing processes/procedures, the delivery approach, resources, and budgets.
  7. Acting as a process and technical resource during projects, intercepting issues and directing corrective actions as required, monitoring and reviewing project progress, and proactively raising issues to stakeholders and collaborating on solutions and options.
  8. Ensuring delivery of high-quality releases to production using primarily agile methodologies and maintaining constant communication with business leaders.
  9. Leading multiple teams of Developers and Quality Analysts, including hiring, managing performance, developing, motivating, and retaining a high-performance team.
  10. Handling relationships with 3rd party vendors, partners, and consulting companies.
  11. Evolving the organizational structure to meet business needs and integrating organizational design and development practices to ensure appropriate partnerships and skill sets are used to achieve business results.
  12. Representing PointClickCare by developing and maintaining comprehensive knowledge of PointClickCare products and processes.
  13. Communicating with internal customers in a compelling and articulate manner in both verbal and written conversations and presentations, demonstrating corporate core values and culture, developing professional and positive relationships with customers, and maintaining a reputation of competence, integrity, and professionalism.

Qualifications:

  1. Solid experience with software development life cycle: gathering requirements, analysis and design, development, release and version control, deployment management, Agile development methodologies, Enterprise Software Design.
  2. Most recent experience as a Testing, Quality, or Development Manager/Team Lead.
  3. Previous experience utilizing the following technologies/toolsets/applications:
    1. Java and Web Applications.
    2. Microsoft SQL: Queries and Infrastructure.
    3. Cloud infrastructure.
    4. Testing Tools: Selenium, Cypress, Playwright.
    5. Performance Tools: JMeter, K6, Gatling.
  4. Deep understanding of QA processing and methodologies.
  5. Performance Engineering and Performance Testing experience.
  6. Automation framework design and implementation experience.
  7. Strong leadership skills – ability to lead by example, motivate others, and continuously look for improvements in the work that you and your team perform.
  8. Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  9. Ability to collaborate with many internal teams and management.
  10. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
