Overview
Under the general direction and supervision of the Director Energy North Operations, the incumbent co-ordinates the day-to-day operation and works closely with the Maintenance Services Manager for the Dehcho/Sahtu region to ensure safe and reliable energy production for the region. Develops both short term and long-term objectives supporting division plan and the corporate strategic plan.
Leads the daily operation of the Generation Team for the Dehcho/Sahtu; is responsible for ensuring the Mission, Vision and Values of the organization are articulated and understood by employees. Must lead the staff towards the achievement of the divisional goals and objectives. Operates as a supervisor for direct reports, which includes setting objectives, assigning duties, assessing, and managing individual performance, with the aim of delivering results.
Responsibilities
- Always work safely, adhere to all aspects of the NTPC Health & Safety and Environmental programs, comply with all rules & regulations, and continually practice health & safety while performing any duties.
- Ensure the safety of other employees, contractors, and the public in the workplace by:
- Reporting any failure to adhere to safety practices or rules.
- Providing detailed orientations and identification of hazards to all visitors.
- Removing hazards or making the workplace safe when leaving a work area.
- Participate in the continuous improvement of the Health & Safety program, Environment program as well as NTPC’s safety culture.
- Conduct regular plant inspection trips to satellite communities to ensure the plant meets all safety codes, is properly maintained, and operated.
- Develop, co-ordinate and monitor reporting systems and operating budgets for all diesel and solar plants, buildings and property in the Dehcho/Sahtu area in the North Energy Operations Division to ensure that equipment and property are effectively operated. Maximize the operation availability of all renewable resources.
- Ensure adherence to the safety requirement of the Corporation and that the Work Protection Code is enforced at all times. Ensure employees are properly trained in the Work Protection Code, WHIMS, first aid, and all other mandatory safety training and emergency operating procedures.
- Through team meetings held on a regular and ad hoc basis, establish overall group goals and objectives and provide team leadership, direction, and support to the Dehcho/Sahtu generation team on matters related to the scheduling of staff and assignment of work to ensure the efficient day-to-day operation of diesel and solar generation facilities.
- Initiate repairs and equipment replacement in the event of equipment failure by preparing work orders, ordering material and parts, and effectively utilizing human and financial resources.
- Ensure adherence to the Collective Agreement; interpret relevant provisions and provide input into the negotiation process.
- Provide logistic assistance to satellite communities.
Qualifications
- High school Diploma and five years related experience including two years of supervisory experience is required. Equivalencies may be considered.
- Experience in preparing capital and operating budgets.
- Extensive experience in the production and distribution of power.
- Good planning, organizational and prioritizing skills.
- Good analytical and diagnostic skills with problem-solving competence.
- Good verbal and written communication skills in order to respond to customer complaints and deal with permanent, casual, and contract workers.
- Experience in word processing and spreadsheet programs.
- Valid Class 5 NWT Driver’s license required.
- Must be able to provide a satisfactory criminal record check.
Salary for this position ranges from $64.90/hr-$81.12/hr. plus location and accommodation allowances of approximately $10,384 per annum.
