Discipline of Family Medicine

Faculty of Medicine

(Full-time, 1-Year Contractual Position)

The University will consider applications from qualified permanent staff who may be interested in a secondment, subject to departmental approval.

This competition may be used to fill identical positions in this unit within three (3) months of the closing date.

DUTIES

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer of the Faculty of Medicine and the Chair, Discipline of Family Medicine, the successful applicant will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Discipline of Family Medicine (DFM), including its academic programs, clinical operations, and research unit. The successful candidate will provide leadership and strategic support to key initiatives for DFM activities, and oversee a team of 29 staff. Duties include:

  1. Providing management and direction to administrative staff;
  2. Financial management, including developing short and long term financial plans, priorities and objectives;
  3. Developing and monitoring the operating and discipline fund budgets;
  4. Developing and implementing business processes and systems to increase efficiency and optimize resources;
  5. Overseeing daily operations including financial, human and administrative resources;
  6. Ensuring essential tools, equipment and supplies are in place;
  7. Managing the continuous quality improvement process for successful accreditation and compliance with standards required by affiliated regulatory authorities and other stakeholders of DFM;
  8. Assisting in program development to achieve specific objectives;
  9. Providing advice and support to programs;
  10. Developing, applying, administering and monitoring policies and procedures;
  11. Collaborating with stakeholders at the local, provincial and national levels to enhance programming and resources;
  12. Preparing and providing reports as required, including a variety of statistical analysis to stakeholders (local, regional and provincial);
  13. Representing and marketing DFM at local, provincial and national levels;
  14. Communicating with various stakeholders;
  15. Preparing and providing presentations;
  16. Overseeing DFM website and social media development;
  17. Performing other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Experience (5-8 years) in a management capacity in an academic environment and/or the public sector; completion of a Master's degree in Health/Business Administration or related discipline; or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Strong skills in strategic financial management, including administrative, organizational, leadership, analytical and problem solving is required. Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills are required, as are strong computer skills. Familiarity with Memorial University policies and procedures, as well as familiarity with the Faculty of Medicine are assets.

SALARY

$76,250 - $98,840 per annum (Management and Professional)
