Organization Description:

The Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Garden Society of Vancouver is a non-profit cultural institution dedicated to fostering understanding and mutual appreciation among Vancouver’s diverse communities, with a focus on classical Chinese arts and culture. The Society operates the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, a museum and popular tourist attraction located in Vancouver’s historic Chinatown.

The Manager of Events, Corporate Partnerships, and Sponsorship will provide leadership to the organization’s staff and oversee the events and venue rentals portfolios at the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden. Additionally, the role will focus on increasing sponsorships, corporate partnerships and building fundraising event programs to secure ongoing revenue. The Manager will also drive third-party events and bookings to the Gardens, such as weddings, photo shoots, corporate events, and other revenue-generating activities.

This position is based in our Vancouver Chinatown office, with a hybrid workplace experience during the off-season.

About You:

You are an accomplished fundraising events manager with a proven track record of leading events staff to skillfully execute large and small-scale events. You are collaborative, flexible, and comfortable presenting to executives as well as working with community volunteers on event days.

Responsibilities:

- Develop, implement, and grow the Society’s fundraising and third-party events.
- Manage and execute fundraising events, aiming to generate one-third of the Society’s annual revenue.
- Oversee the venue rentals portfolio of the organization.
- Assist in strategic planning and revenue projections.
- Develop and manage fundraising and third-party events budgets.
- Prepare financial and performance reporting for committees, sponsors, and senior management.
- Manage sponsorship identification, activation, stewardship, and reporting.
- Build strategy and relationships with third-party event organizers.
- Ensure CRA compliance and oversee tax receipting procedures for fundraising events.
- Manage relationships with key fundraising volunteers and committees.
- Establish and maintain relationships with external stakeholders and represent the Society as required.
- Collaborate with other managers to provide leadership and guidance to staff.
- Identify opportunities for brand campaigns, event partnerships, and community activations.
- Perform other duties as required to meet organizational goals or as instructed by the Executive Director.

Qualifications:

- 3 to 5 years of experience in a related capacity and discipline and a proven track record of event management success.
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation abilities; vigorous attention to detail; and exceptional time and organizational management.
- Certificate in project management or similar discipline and CFRE preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and motivation to a team.
- Strong planning, project management, and facilitation skills.
- Ability to maintain integrity and professionalism.
- Proven ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Superior communication skills and ability to make engaging presentations.
- Proficiency in and knowledge of online fundraising platforms.
- Willingness to work some evenings, weekends, and early mornings.
- Valid BC driver’s license.

Salary Range: $60,000 - $75,000, commensurate with experience. Two-week vacation plus a number of paid personal days. Benefits include extended health, dental, life insurance, and LTD after three months.
