The Manager of Membership & Individual Giving is responsible for an individual giving program that includes the Curiosity Fund for annual general operating support and general and supporting mid-level membership programs. To be in sync with the overall strategies and goals of the Institutional Advancement Department and to support the Saint Louis Science Center’s mission, “To inspire everyone to be curious and engaged in science.”
Works collaboratively with the Chief Institutional Advancement Officer and principal gifts team to grow membership revenue and household participation, develop unique and educational member events and programs in collaboration with the Science and Education staff, and promote stewardship and giving within the Saint Louis Science Center membership and annual donor community.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create and maintain fundraising action plan that increases Membership revenue and households and increases funds raised for operations, gallery and exhibit development, community science programs and other areas of need within the museum.
- Oversee the integrity, quality, and process efficiency of all communication to Members including email, NewScience (Member magazine), letters, renewals, social media campaigns, Membership sales and event invites.
- Oversee the development and planning of all Member-only events and programs being mindful to create unique and engaging experiences that add value to Membership levels.
- Create and manage a series of VIP events and unique programmatic experiences for donors, in collaboration with the principal gifts team.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive annual and long-term plan to grow Membership and increase repeat visitation of Members and conversion of guests to Members.
- Manage membership renewal program with Membership Marketing Coordinator and track renewal inventory and changes in creative assets. Work closely with the Advancement Services department to coordinate monthly mailings and emails.
- Identify appropriate prospects; develop, write and submit solicitations, email campaigns, digital and website initiatives and event cultivation.
- Supervise the Membership Marketing Coordinator and the on-site Membership Services team (3) to increase sales, implement incentive programs and support exceptional customer service and relationship building with members. Support the on-site membership team as related to oversight and management of the membership phone line. Monitor staff performance on weekends and events.
- Manage list exchanges and list development in concert with Advancement Services ensuring that creative content and copy is up-to-date, and delivery adheres to deadlines.
- Manage department processes, Membership and donor campaigns and relationship development.
- Manage database integrity, processes, and prospect research in partnership with Director of Advancement Services.
- Use Salesforce database to retrieve data. Perform comprehensive analysis to all aspects of the annual fund program.
- Establish and monitor staff performance and goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities and conduct annual performance reviews.
- Develop an annual budget for the Membership Department that aligns with departmental plans, priorities, revenue growth and organizational strategic directives.
- Establish and meet the annual revenue goals in concert with the Chief Institutional Advancement Officer.
- Track monthly membership numbers, analyze trends, and provide reports utilizing Ticketure for Finance.
- Oversee tracking of department inventory with Membership Sales Lead and Advancement Services.
- Must be available to work evenings, holidays, and weekends as needed for events and programs and provides coverage of duties on-site for the on-site membership sales team when necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree OR equivalent experience in development, English, marketing, communications or related field preferred.
- 3 to 5 years’ experience in development/nonprofit management with direct experience in membership or alumni programs preferred.
- Experience working with ticketing/CRM systems (such as Salesforce or Ticketure) a plus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, some of the work of this position will occur in the public areas of the Science Center and some will occur in an office setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The position may require time to be spent outside in all weather conditions. Ability to work in loud, crowded areas.
