Reporting to the Head of Improvement, the Manager, Improvement is responsible for leading Teck’s Central Improvement Team to deliver operating excellence in partnership with Teck’s operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures.
- Develop resourcing and execution plans for a pipeline of engagements that balance value delivery and team capacity.
- Be accountable for the overall engagement quality and performance of multiple teams each consisting of 2-4 members. Collaborate with team leaders to establish and report out relevant metrics for performance metrics such as KPI impact, end user adoption, schedule, and cost.
- Coordinate pipeline development and focus with continuous improvement leaders at Teck operations; develop programs to support Teck’s operation based continuous improvement teams and broadly create a Teck wide community of continuous improvement that is embedded in Teck’s operating system and leadership development programs and drives Teck wide collaboration.
- From time to time take on analysis or short engagements from members of Teck’s leadership team.
- Drive consistency of engagement teams consisting of BI specialists and team leaders by providing regular feedback and identifying growth opportunities through daily feedback, engagement performance reviews, and bi-annual performance feedback.
- Develop people: maintain the Central Improvement Team reputation as a desired and career enhancing place to work for emerging talent by high quality training, impactful engagements and a focus on rotating team members to other high-profile roles at Teck.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5-7 years of professional experience in operations improvement focused management consulting, process improvement, cost reduction, mining operations, or engineering. Exposure to mine operations is considered an asset.
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or related field. Master of Business Administration (MBA) would be considered an asset.
- Strong leadership skills with demonstrated ability to lead and motivate cross functional teams, as well as manage third party relationships effectively.
- Excellent interpersonal skills as well as excellent oral and written communication skills, comfortable with Senior leader engagement.
- Solid understanding of mining industry fundamentals.
- Experience in the deployment of Continuous Improvement Programs within mining industry would be considered an asset.
- Excellent at articulating points, and effectively delivering a message.
- Experience and understanding of effective change management.
- Relationship Builder.
- Comfortable with working in ambiguous and unstructured settings.
- Experience working in engagement-based, customer focused service models.
- Understanding of lean six sigma, agile, and other performance and project management frameworks are considered an asset.
- Anticipated travel requirement is approx. 25%.

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
