To succeed in this role, you will:

  • Inspire, mentor, and empower a highly skilled technical team, fostering an inclusive and collaborative culture where everyone can contribute and grow.
  • Advance the modernization of geospatial services, ensuring data and tools are more accessible, user-friendly, and responsive to the needs of diverse stakeholders.
  • Champion innovation and engagement, working with teams to unlock their potential, encourage knowledge-sharing, and enhance collaboration across government, business and the public.
  • Provide sound administrative management of the operational functions and activities of the provincial geospatial program in alignment with ministry and divisional strategic plans and program priorities.
  • Advocate for geospatial services, helping stakeholders understand their value and integrating them into policy, planning, and decision-making.
  • Build meaningful partnerships with government, business, and the public to drive geospatial solutions that support public services, economic development, public safety and environmental sustainability.

What you bring to the team

Strategic Leadership and Management Skills

  • Demonstrated the leadership behaviours, attributes and mindsets for leaders, across the organization, to lead the OPS into the future and deliver our vision.
  • Experience in mentoring and coaching technical teams, fostering professional growth, and promoting knowledge-sharing.
  • Commitment to inclusion and diversity, integrating these values into all aspects of management.
  • Ability to oversee human resources functions, including performance management and talent development.

Technical Expertise and Knowledge

  • Knowledge of information technology, including hardware and GIS software to optimize Ontario's geospatial services.
  • Understanding of data management, application architecture, and geospatial data methodologies.
  • Developed analytical skills to assess emerging technologies and evaluate business cases.
  • Experience managing financial and administrative operations, including budget development and asset management.

Communication Skills and Interpersonal Skills

  • Highly developed customer service and relationship management skills to foster and build business relationships.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively market and promote geospatial services to clients.
  • Consultative and advisory skills to provide strategic guidance to senior leadership.
  • Negotiation skills to manage service contracts and agreements with partners.

Program Management and Planning Skills

  • Expertise in leading multi-year strategic business, program, and service plans.
  • Planning and coordinating skills to lead the long-term vision of delivering specialized geospatial services and IT to clients.
  • Extensive project management experience to plan, manage, and coordinate multiple projects concurrently.
  • Proven ability to plan and coordinate client priorities and expectations, ensuring deliverables are met effectively.
