Position: Manager, Financial Reporting and Accounting
Location: Vancouver, Canada
Department: Finance and Accounting
Reports To: Corporate Controller


Position Summary
Reporting to the Corporate Controller and with a direct staff of four accountants, the Manager, Financial Reporting and Accounting’s role focuses on optimizing Seapeak’s accounting processes as well as the review of Seapeak’s internal and external financial reports, including those prepared for management, the Board of Directors, and international regulatory bodies including the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.


Major Responsibilities

  1. Global Accounting Process
    • Liaise and collaborate with Seapeak’s global offices and other departments on certain operational accounts, including revenue and G&A.
    • Oversee the documentation, review, and adherence to global accounting processes and policies.
    • Lead the development and implementation of accounting process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness within the global Finance and Accounting team.
  2. External and Internal Reporting
    • Manage and review certain quarter-end reconciliations to ensure that Seapeak’s financial information is accurate, timely, and relevant for public reporting and management needs. This includes information provided by Seapeak operational teams in different regions and from certain joint ventures.
    • Manage the quarter-end reporting process for one consolidated joint venture directly managed by Seapeak to ensure that information provided to our partners is accurate, timely, and relevant.
    • Manage annual audited and unaudited statutory financial statements for certain Seapeak subsidiaries and one joint venture, reported under local GAAP and IFRS, which includes applying statutory adjustments.
    • Assist with the preparation of quarterly and year-end Seapeak LLC consolidated financial statements reported under US GAAP, Audit Committee materials, and other Seapeak corporate reporting, as required.
    • Research and interpret US GAAP, SEC regulations, and other local GAAP to apply to recurring and ad hoc accounting issues and changes.
    • Assist with overseeing the execution of internal control policies, ensuring SOX compliance.
    • Support the external audit process for Seapeak and certain subsidiaries and joint ventures.
  3. Projects and Other
    • Participate in accounting-related IT system projects and other departmental projects, as required.
    • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within the team.
    • Supervise Seapeak reporting and accounting staff (currently a team of four) including hiring, termination, counseling, performance evaluation, goal setting, and development.
    • Participate in the planning of the department’s goals and activities.

Requirements (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)

  • University business degree and professional accounting designation.
  • Exposure to business processes, SOX compliant internal controls, and external reporting.
  • Experience working with external auditors and/or running complete audits.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and previous experience researching, documenting, and applying standards.
  • Proficiency with computer software (MS Word and Excel).
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in the accounting field.
  • Ability to supervise, coach and deal with employee grievances and concerns.
  • Ability to both work with details and at a high level.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and experience with report preparation.
  • Excellent organization, time management skills, and attention to detail.

Preferred

  • Exposure to US GAAP and SEC Reporting.
  • Exposure to Oracle Cloud ERP, SAP BPC, and WDesk.
  • Shipping industry experience.
