Our client, a leader in an industrial setting with longevity in business and a strong track record of success, has a need for a Manager, Finance in Edmonton. This organization is highly established, has a strong reputation in the market and continues to grow and thrive. THE OPPORTUNITY

The Manager, Finance will lead the financial accounting team and is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of the financial accounting function within the organization. The role involves leading a team, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, and maintaining compliance with accounting standards and regulations. The role plays a key role in internal controls, audit management, and process optimization. The successful candidate will have strong leadership, technical accounting expertise, and experience leading effective collaboration across cross-functional teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Accounting:

  1. Oversee the development and maintenance of timely and accurate financial statements and reports (monthly and quarterly).
  2. Develop, implement, and ensure compliance with internal financial and accounting policies and procedures and compliance with financial regulations, reporting requirements, and industry standards.
  3. Review, establish and monitor internal controls to protect the company and ensure regulatory compliance and adherence to company policies and industry standards.
  4. Oversee internal and external audits, including the preparation of audit schedules and addressing audit inquiries.
  5. Oversee full-cycle accounting activities including cash flow, working capital, corporate tax, corporate loans, and performing financial analysis.
  6. Oversee tax-related activities, including accurate and timely filing of tax returns, and staying updated on tax regulations.
  7. Leverage financial management software and technology to streamline processes and improve overall financial efficiency.
  8. Partner with all stakeholders to ensure that reporting is relevant, timely, and supports strategic decision-making.
  9. Provide advice and guidance on finance matters including financial systems, analysis, and reporting identifying opportunities for process optimization.

Leadership:

  1. Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.
  2. Provide effective management and direction to the accounting team.
  3. Provide functional leadership to ensure optimization of financial accounting processes, accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with accounting standards, procedures, and relevant regulatory requirements.

THE INDIVIDUAL

Given the pivotal role this individual will be expected to play in achieving the strategic objectives of the company and in supporting the success of the organization, it is essential that the successful candidate possess the following core competencies, experience, and attributes:

Education

  1. A university degree in Accounting, Business, or Finance; a CPA designation is required.

Experience

  1. A minimum of 10 years of experience in full-cycle accounting.
  2. A minimum of 3 years of leadership experience.
  3. Extensive experience and knowledge in dealing with accounting systems, and internal controls.
  4. Experience working in an industrial or manufacturing industry will be considered an asset.
