WE’RE LOOKING FOR A MANAGER, ENGINEERING
Position Location: Fort Erie, Ontario

The Manager, Engineering, reports to the President of AHCA and is responsible for leading the overall solution/design, development and qualification/certification of a product (or a family of products) to satisfy Customer and Regulatory requirements in conjunction with AHCA’s cost and schedule needs. They are responsible for technical definition, quoting, Engineering deliverables, schedule, cost, quality and risk management aspects up to final Customer acceptance. The incumbent manages the Engineering department in the frame of the AHNA engineering organization and staff and provides routine feedback to team members to support daily tasks. The Manager, Engineering is responsible for maintaining all engineering documentation required for compliance with company and industry regulatory requirements, including AHCA‘s Transport Canada Design Approval Organization.

Main Responsibilities

  1. Manage Engineering Team
  2. Plan, organize, direct and delegate work within the engineering department
  3. Identify and obtain required resources to perform required work
  4. Define goals and priorities for the team that translate the department strategies and objectives into a clear set of added values activities and projects, including that of continuous improvement
  5. Focus on customer satisfaction and maintain relationships with key stakeholders (customers, suppliers, process owners, product managers, social representation, etc.) to ensure clarity, consistency and communication of their requirements
  6. Monitor Engineering department performance (KPI) and adapt in order to meet set objectives
  7. Endorse and support the company commitments (technical, quality, schedule and cost) through seamless service and risk mitigation in own area of responsibility
  8. Establish and maintain all required department working procedures resulting from regulatory/corporate obligations and responsibilities
  9. Evaluate and reward key personnel to foster a harmonious, responsible and performing team
  10. Assess and develop people strengths and competences according to future business needs and individual career plans. Identify and promote talents, seek and provide regular feedback on individual and team behaviors and ways of working and develop team accountability
  11. Uphold values and image of company & Airbus Group especially reporting and disclosure
  12. Foster a health and safety mindset in the workplace and knowledge of health and safety requirements
  13. Coordinate with other AHCA Departments
  14. Evaluate feasibility and estimates in support of new business development
  15. Assist in the resolution of customer technical queries and problems
  16. Represent the company in product liability litigation
  17. Liaise with other key departments to provide support where required
  18. Manage AHCA’s / Transport Canada relationship for Design activities
  19. Create and maintain all engineering documentation required for compliance with company, industry, and regulatory requirements (including AHCA Design Approval Organization)
  20. Interface with Transport Canada for all certification subjects

Design & Engineering Support

  1. Undertake technical feasibility & quoting studies for development of new products and recommend solutions for establishment of proposals to Sales and Marketing under the guidance of the Program Management
  2. Development of new helicopter components, optional equipment installations, including design, analysis, test, documentation, and certification as required to meet AHCA contracted obligations and airworthiness regulations
  3. Provide management with Technical recommendations on aircraft related design and manufacturing issues
  4. Provide sustaining engineering, product improvements and engineering support for existing AHCA products and helicopters in service
  5. Provide support and expertise to Manufacturing to solve and dispose of design induced NCRs
  6. Provide Manufacturing department with technical solutions for new manufacturing, assembly and tooling and leadership for prototype and pre-series manufacturing

Position Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical/Structural Engineering or equivalent
Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) license

Experience: 7 years’ experience working in an Aircraft/Aviation Engineering role
3 years’ Managerial experience

Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities:

  1. Plan, organize, direct, control and delegate the activities and operations of an engineering department, and meet associated mission goals
  2. Coordinate and review the technical work of the department or project teams
  3. Leadership skills
  4. Attention to detail
  5. Proven ability to develop positive working relationships with staff and management
  6. Proactively address conflicts and problems
  7. Knowledge of and experience working with Airbus helicopters
  8. Knowledge of and experience working with Transport Canada Design regulations
  9. Provide support and expertise to manufacturing department
  10. Excellent oral and written communication skills
  11. Hands on approach to design

Technical Systems Proficiency:

  1. Proficiency in Microsoft Office 2010 pack / Google Workspace
  2. Understanding of design Software (CATIA)
  3. Business management software
  4. Advanced computer skills
  5. ERP system experience – preferably SAP
