Job description

Shared Health Diagnostic Services is responsible for the coordinated delivery of all Diagnostic Services across Manitoba. This position will ensure the safe, effective, coordinated and timely delivery of high-quality Diagnostic services (Diagnostic Imaging (DI), Non-Invasive Cardiac Testing (NICT), and Laboratory Operations).

Reporting to the relevant Director Diagnostic Services, this position will ensure that the operations are in accordance with the standards and regulations of the profession and will oversee the day-to-day operations for the designated unit. The areas this position represents are Diagnostic Imaging (DI) & Non-Invasive Cardiac Testing (NICT), and Laboratory Operations.

Main Function

  • In collaboration with the designated Director Diagnostic Services, the position will assume responsibility for the designated unit specific quality assurance activities.
  • Monitor the budget on a regular basis and take corrective action and explain variances as necessary.
  • Serve as a resource person and lead staff in achieving strategies and initiatives and establishing efficient operations.
  • Facilitate an environment which fosters change through effective role modelling, support and delegation.
  • Work with regional, private Diagnostic providers and site personnel regarding physical facilities (maintenance, renovations, and accommodation of equipment).
  • Work with the regional, private Diagnostic providers and site in proposing options and solutions to address service delivery issues and challenges.

Experience

  • 5 years of progressive supervisory to mid-level management experience required, preferably in a health-care setting including: 5 years of recent experience as a technologist within diagnostic services preferred. 2 years of supervisory experience within a unionized environment preferred.

Education (Degree / Diploma / Certificate)

  • Post-secondary diploma in a relevant field from an accredited educational institution (Medical Radiologic Technology (MRT), Echocardiography, Sonography) is an asset.
  • Post-secondary degree in a relevant management and/or health discipline from an accredited education institution is preferred.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Demonstrated mid-level leadership capabilities. The provincial health system in Manitoba has adopted the framework.
  • Previous administrative knowledge, skills and/or experience in, but not limited to, scheduling, timekeeping, accreditation preparation, inventory management and maintaining administrative documents would be considered an asset.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to work safely in a typical computerized office environment with frequent meetings, and to lift and carry items of up to approximately 10 kg (25 pounds).
  • Interruptions to respond to questions from executives and partner organizations are common; the incumbent is able to schedule dedicated and focused time for planning and concentration.
  • Travel to other health care facilities throughout the province requiring a valid Manitoba driver’s license and use of a personal motor vehicle.
