Areas of research excellence include allergy, asthma, cancer, cardiovascular disease, childhood disability, diabetes, gastroenterology, health equity, pain, infectious diseases and virology.

About the position

The Manager, Development will report to the Director, Development, and work closely with the Chairs and Directors of Administration for assigned departments within the Faculty of Health Sciences, specifically the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences, and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The successful incumbent will be an experienced relationship professional and will be responsible for several funder relationships, focusing on gifts ranging from 25K+, and leading to the overall quantitative impact to the Department. Consistent with a team-oriented approach to development strategy, this role liaises with both internal and external partners on development approaches, with strategic support from the Director, Development and University Advancement’s senior leaders.

Are you the right candidate?

This role requires a proven track record of success in securing complex gifts in the $25K - $1 million+ range, including current and planned gifts and leading others to the successful attainment of ambitious fundraising goals. Throughout your experience, you have been recognized for proactively championing partnerships, as well as attracting and maintaining relationships with donors and supporters. You must possess superior critical and strategic thinking and decision-making skills. Additionally, this role requires a community-centred and funder and goal-oriented approach with solid understanding of Canadian philanthropic environment, legislation, and available charitable vehicles, including familiarity and experience working with planned gifts, including bequests.

Critical to the success of this role will be effective communication and interpersonal skills, writing winning proposals and associated development materials. The successful incumbent will have a demonstrated understanding of human resources, project management, volunteer and budget management and strong financial acumen.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Accountable for building a wide-ranging portfolio charged with advancing and enhancing the relationships, reputation, and resources department(s) through relationship building and revenue generation.
  • Provides strategic fundraising leadership to secure and grow the department(s)s base of major supporters, and to steward these funders in a manner to inspire meaningful and authentic long-lasting relationships with the University
  • Model a culture of collaboration, integration and service to support the University’s core research and academic missions
  • Accountable for supporting the development, monitoring, evaluation and measurement of the department(s) fundraising plans to ensure they achieve goals and outcomes and that they are aligned with University Advancement’s goals
  • Work with senior leadership of the department(s) and University Advancement senior-level development leaders to develop advancement plans aligned with and stemming directly from the academic priorities, fostering a compelling vision and case for support that enables the pursuit of significant major gifts
  • Work in conjunction with senior leadership of the department(s) to establish goals and objectives including annual professional development plans for team members to support a culture of continuous improvement and readiness for change

Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 years of demonstrated experience in major giving fundraising, preferably within the post-secondary or healthcare system
  • University Degree required
  • Master’s Degree or advancement designation is an asset
  • Proven track record of fundraising success in securing complex gifts at $25K and above
  • Experience leading and managing teams of high-performing, donor-centred development professionals
